Released on October 22nd, 2021 (his 32nd birthday), the album features guest appearances from DatPiffMafia, Kimbra and Tkay Maidza. It received a great critical response from Pitchfork, NME, and more. The album thematically speaks to JPEG’s struggles within the music industry and staying true to his art, and is entirely self-produced like much of his work. JPEGMAFIA has established himself as one of today’s premiere contemporary and experimental hip hop artists, with over 1.5M monthly listeners on Spotify, and 500K+ Instagram followers. His fanbase is dedicated, excited and engaged with everything JPEGMAFIA does.
And then in ALL MY HEROES ARE CORNBALLS, Black vinyl. All My Heroes Are Cornballs is the third studio album by renowned Baltimore rapper JPEGMafia, released on September 13, 2019, follow-up to the album that really launched his career, Veteran (2018). JPEGMAFIA handled the production, mixing and mastering in his home studio. The album features guest appearances from Abdu Ali, Helena Deland and Buzzy Lee, as well as additional vocals by Refined Sugar, Vegyn and Young Emoji. All My Heroes are cornballs is an avant-garde, experimental hip hop, and punk rap album, and draws influences from experimental pop, glitch hop, ambient, noise and industrial music. It has a smoother and more melodic sound than it’s predecessor, employing uncommon song structures, extensive sampling, and a variety of vocal techniques such as rapping, screaming and singing. Thematically, the album is personal, introspective, and presented in a stream of consciousness form, touching on the Internet culture, prejudice, political issues and JPEGMafia’s newfound fame.
Rounding out the 3, we’ve got VETERAN, Veteran is the second studio from renowned Baltimore rapper, JPEGMAFIA. It was released on January 19 2018 by Deathbomb Arc and Republic Records. The album was released to widespread critical acclaim and brought JPEGMAFIA to the forefront of contemporary and experimental hip hop. NME, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Noisey, and Spin all listed Veteran in their top 100 albums of 2018. In 2019, Pitchfork listed it at number 171 in their list of best albums of the decade. The album features JPEGMAFIA’s most streamed song, 1539 N. Calvert. As described by Pitchfork: “Entirely self-produced, Veteran is a remarkable exercise in sound and texture. HELLRIPPER’S BLACK ARTS & ALCHEMY EP SERVES UP BLACKENED THRASH METAL ANTHEMS!
Limited orange colored vinyl LP pressing. Following the release of debut album ‘Coagulating Darkness’ in 2017 which thrust Hellripper firmly into the gaze of underground metal maniacs, the ‘Black Arts & Alchemy’ EP brought even more attention & notoriety to this special act upon it’s release in 2019, as Hellripper’s ascent gained further momentum. With four black/thrash anthems delivered in Hellripper’s uncompromising & unwavering style & including an additional cover version of Running Wild’s “Iron Heads”, the release demonstrated an ongoing mastery of composition & execution whilst remaining true to the firm heavy metal roots which had brought so much appraisal to date. Featuring the band’s trademark intricate & expertly-crafted concoction of hyperspeed riffing & solos, ‘Black Arts & Alchemy’ was also notably mastered by Joel Grind of celebrated US thrashers “Toxic Holocaust”. Inspired by the likes of old-school legends including Venom, Kreator, Sabbat [JPN] & Metallica, James McBain formed Hellripper in 2014 & with the release of the debut EP ‘The Manifestation Of Evil’ shortly after, the Scottish band was already making a very clear statement of hellish destruction with an electrifying brand of blackened thrash. Building on the momentum of the debut EP with a string of split releases, the debut album ‘Coagulating Darkness’ was released in 2017 to media acclaim, with the UK’s Metal Hammer hailing Hellripper as “Scotland’s King of the arcane mosh” & the band receiving attention throughout Europe & the US. This was followed by the EP – ‘Black Arts & Alchemy’, before an eventual deal was inked with Peaceville, resulting in 2020’s ‘The Affair Of The Poisons’, leading on to 2023’s monumental breakthrough release, ‘Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags’.
