The Punisher – DISMEMBERED – in DARK REIGN THE LIST PUNISHER

You know, the hype machines of the big publishers are so good at what they do these days that it’s really hard to be surprised by something in comics. Usually there’s hints of “This issue is going to be BIG”,  or “The landmark issue of a lifetime!”  in the solicits, and sometimes they ring true, but sometimes they do not. Well, this little Punisher one-shot, which promised to be an important chapter, but got very little hype (especially considering it had the talents of the incredible JOHN ROMITA JR onboard) blew us away this week. Now, this whole article is very spoiler-heavy, but then again, so was the headline… but hey, it’s the internet… what’d you expect? :)

Anyways, the general scoop here is that Norman Osborn has dispatched the Dark Avengers to deal with Frank Castle. And, Daken (known as Dark Wolverine) and the Punisher have one of the most brutal comic book throwdowns we’ve seen in ages.  I mean, this is a knives to the head, throats being cut, lips being bit off slobberknocker, folks. And, then, comes one of the most intense scenes I’ve seen in a mainstream 616 Marvel Comics… Daken cuts the Punisher’s head off. One slice. And, then his torso, and arms… and lets just say the Punisher is left lying as a messy, wet pile of body parts.

Now, of course, this leads into a very big storyline that could only be called……

Frankencastle - Reserve Your Copy Now!

We know what you’re thinking. Frankencastle? Really? But, lets face it, if an idea is this ridiculous, then it might just work. And, I’ll be the first to admit, when they originally announced Marvel Zombies … I thought it was the dumbest thing I’d ever heard, and said it was going to bomb. I turned out to be pretty damn wrong. After reading the prelude to FRANKENCASTLE, I honestly think that the FRANKENCASTLE storyline is going to rule. It starts in PUNISHER #11, so, be sure to reserve your copy here at Third Eye!

And, hey, this entire run of the new PUNISHER series by Rick Remender has been AWESOME. The first arc is killer, and the second arc was pretty damn good too. Combine that with Tony Moore (Fear Agent, Walking Dead) coming on for the art chores, and we’ve got some cool stuff in store for us.

Looking to catch up on Remender’s run?  Well, we currently have ALL of the back issues still in stock here at Third Eye, although many of these are now out of print, and if you’re looking to catch up… we’d recommend doing it quick, cause after the events of the one-shot this week, lots of people are going to be going back for these books.
