THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 4/28/10
| THE HEROIC AGE is HERE! INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #25 *PERFECT JUMPING ON POINT* NEW STORYLINE RESILIENT BEGINS HERE! FIND OUT WHY THIS SERIES HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR FAVORITE MONTHLY SUPERHERO BOOKS FOR NEARLY A YEAR STRAIGHT! Meet The New Iron Man Armor! PLUS, WIN A FREE THEATRICAL POSTER FOR IRON MAN 2 THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE! ![]() If you haven’t been reading Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca’s incredible run on Iron Man with the ongoing INVINCIBLE IRON MAN series, then now you have the perfect opportunity to find out why this is the BEST Marvel book we’re reading month in, and month out. No hyperbole here, folks, Fraction and Larroca have managed to make Invincible Iron Man feel like a must-read title each and every month for two years straight. No fill-in creative teams, no big delays between issues, just issue after issue of great storytelling, great artwork, and bigger than life Marvel madness. I never thought that Iron Man would be the Marvel book I looked forward to the most on a monthly basis. Why? ‘Cause I grew up reading comics in the era where Iron Man was kinda not so cool… you know, the whole kid Iron Man brought back to the future to stop evil Tony Stark era… yeah, the ’90s, it was a mess. And, while I did dig the Kurt Busiek run that came out in the late ’90s, the character never really clicked with me until I got into INVINCIBLE IRON MAN. I’ll have to admit though, it was a perfect synergy, because the first issue of this current run came out right around the same time that the IRON MAN movie came out two years ago. That first IRON MAN movie was so good, and captured the essence of what made the Armored Avenger cool so well that my mind was kind of opened to how cool the character could be. And, then, in step Mr. Fraction and Mr. Larocca with the debut of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, and I was hooked. See, Fraction and Larocca’s INVINCIBLE IRON MAN captures that perfect blend of bigger-than-life action, hard-hitting drama, and overall swashbuckling appeal that the IRON MAN movie had. The way that Stark is characterized is perfect, and the way that they are able to deal with technological situations, while keeping a very human feel to the characters involved is truly unique. See, for me, one of the pitfalls of Iron Man stories was they would get too bogged down in the technical details, and neglect the characters, but Fraction is able to balance the future-tech awesomeness of Iron Man with strong character-driven stories that make for some fantastic reading. And, the artwork has been consistently great since issue #1. Larocca has managed to keep a consistent, timely pattern of work, and really brings the world of Iron Man to life very well in the series. Seriously, folks, I love this book, and if you’re not reading it yet. You need to give it a shot this Wednesday. The Perfect Jumping On Point – This Wednesday’s issue #25 is the perfect spot to jump onto INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, and find out why this is one of the best monthly Marvel books on the stands. If you’ve ever been curious about following an Iron Man title, or heck, if you’re just a fan of good comics, then now is your chance to jump in without coming into the middle of a previously running story. Issue #25 start fresh with an awakened Tony Stark who’s empire is in financial ruin, and his memory is missing certain blocks and pieces of actions he’s done. In other words… that whole Civil War escapade? He’s still trying to figure all of that out. Now, he’s trying to rebuild both his own company, as well as his legacy as the Armored Avenger. And, at the other side of the table? Hammer Industries, and their answer to terrorist threats: Detroit Steel. A new corporation intent on building robotic bodyguards piloted by former military men to be sold off to private corporations to protect their financial interests. Now, I’ve just finished reading the advance copy that we got of this, and I’ve gotta say… it’s probably one of the best issues of the run so far. And, I thought that the whole Stark Disassembled thing would be hard to top, but I was wrong. This is a great start, and a great entry point to the series, but beyond all that.. it’s just a damn good comic. There’s a fantastic two or three interplay between Thor and Stark that’s probably one of the strongest character-driven moments in a comic that I’ve seen in a long time, and I was extremely impressed with how that played out. I mean, such a powerful story moment, and it’s just conversation, just two characters talking. As for how this issue serves as a jumping on point, it’s a fantastic area to come in fresh, and it reads well without any back-story on what’s been going on in the Iron Man title. There’s a couple of references here and there, but all in all, #25 serves as a great spot to come aboard. The New Armor Revealed – The other big milestone about this issue is that it shows the debut of the latest, and greatest in the evolution of the Iron Man armor. When I first saw shots of the new armor a few months ago, I wasn’t totally sold on it, but seeing it in action, and watching how it’s incorporated into the character… it’s freakin’ awesome. There’s a very cool retro, almost ’80s-kinda feel to the new armor, but with a 21st century spin. It has a timeless feel to it, but also still comes off as cutting edge. And, with this being the armor that Marvel is deciding on going with for Iron Man from here on out, this makes issue #25 of Invincible Iron Man one of those milestone armor-changing issues. Much like the appearance of previous incarnations of the armor that stuck around in the past. The Heroic Age is Here; What is the Heroic Age? – Ever since the start of SIEGE, Marvel has been throwing around references to an upcoming HEROIC AGE for their titles. And, in my opinion, nothing showcases the feel and direction of the HEROIC AGE better than INVINCIBLE IRON MAN. INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #25 could not be a more perfect title to usher in the HEROIC AGE. And, for those of you who may have missed it a couple weeks ago, check out the first issue of the new ongoing Black Widow series, as that also carries the HEROIC AGE banner, and was a fantastic read. And, if you end up digging INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #25 – We know once you guys get a taste of the awesomeness that is Fraction and Larocca’s Iron Man run, you’re gonna wanna go back and read some of the earlier stuff. We currently have nearly all of the back issues of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN in stock, and are well-stocked on the entire STARK DISASSEMBLED story arc that began in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN 20 and ran through to INVINCIBLE IRON MAN 24. If you’d rather catch up with the trade paperbacks, we’ve also got the first three volumes of Fraction’s INVINCIBLE IRON MAN run available in trade paperback and hardcover. Speaking of hardcovers, have you seen this killer INVINCIBLE IRON MAN HC? WIN A FREE THEATRICAL POSTER OF IRON MAN 2 WHEN YOU PURCHASE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #25 THIS WEDNESDAY Click here for a preview of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #25 *RESILIENT CHAPTER ONE* BRIGHTEST DAY SHINES IT’S LIGHT ONGREEN LANTERN CORPS #47 THIS WEDNESDAY! And, this is why I really cannot wait for Green Lantern Corps #47 this week. We saw during the events of BLACKEST NIGHT how the Corps was affected. And, honestly, I really think that out of all the books that tied in with BLACKEST NIGHT, Green Lantern Corps really got a chance to shine. The book went from being to one I looked forward to on occasion to one of my favorite DC monthlies, and a lot of that is due to the dynamic that Tomasi was able to write into the book against the backdrop of BLACKEST NIGHT. Now, while I don’t want to drop any spoilers, I will say that after the last page of last week’s GREEN LANTERN, I’m really pumped to see how a certain Corps member is going to be acting in this issue. I’m also excited about seeing how the Corps picks up the pieces after the cataclysmic tragedies of BLACKEST NIGHT. The whos, and the hows of the survivors of BLACKEST NIGHT, and what the road ahead of the Corps looks like. I have a feeling that out of many of the books that BRIGHTEST DAY is going to be affecting, Green Lantern Corps will be one of the most interesting, and dynamic in the changes that are to come. Just by judging from what we’ve seen so far, and the new attitudes of certain characters… it’s gonna be one hell of an interesting summer for the GL books. Click here to read more about GREEN LANTERN CORPS #47 *BRIGHTEST DAY* ROBERT KIRKMAN’S (writer of WALKING DEAD & HAUNT) KICKS OFF NEW STORY ARC FOR INVINCIBLE WITH INVINCIBLE #71! A GREAT JUMPING ON ARC FOR ONE OF THE BEST SUPERHERO BOOKS ON THE STANDS! This Wednesday, the biggest storyline to hit INVINCIBLE yet begins with INVINCIBLE #71. The Viltrumite War, which is a storyline that Kirkman has been building up to for quite some time kicks off, and we couldn’t be more stoked. Now, aside from the fact that we’re pumped about The Viltrumite War, we’re also pretty stoked to say that INVINCIBLE #71 provides a great opportunity for new readers to jump aboard. And, while INVINCIBLE is so damn good you’re gonna wanna go back and read all the trades that came previously, you can jump in with this week’s issue #71 and last month’s INVINCIBLE RETURNS #1 (still in stock here at Third Eye) to find out what all the fuss is about this incredible superhero book. Give it a shot this week, INVINCIBLE carries the Third Eye seal of approval, big-time. The first issue of this limited series reads like a demon, it’s very good, very fast-paced, and has that frenetic energy and style that you’d expect from a Millar-written book. The artwork really shines, with Yu delivering some of his best stuff in a while, in my opinion. And, of course, as to be expected from the ULTIMATE universe, there’s plenty of fresh, and interesting new takes on the Marvel Universe. So, what’s the actual story on the plot behind the new ULTIMATE AVENGERS storyline? Well, as we saw in the events of books like the first ULTIMATE COMICS AVENGERS, and NEW ULTIMATES, a schism has formed between Nick Fury and Captain America. Fury understands that there are jobs that need to be done at any cost, and Captain America, even though he may be as hard as nails in the Ultimate Universe, still cannot condone the shady nature of certain wetworks operations. And, this is where the split has come between Fury and Cap, and this is why we have NEW ULTIMATES and ULTIMATE AVENGERS. The NEW ULTIMATES kind of act as the bigger-than-life superhero replacements for the original Ultimates team, and feature a mix of the classic Ultimate Avengers with newer characters, whereas the ULTIMATE AVENGERS have shifted into more of Fury’s personal hush-hush covert ops team that’s willing to cut throats, snap necks, and complete the mission at any cost. In the first issue of this series, we’re introduced to the Ultimate version of the Punisher, who has evolved into one of the most ruthless murderers on the streets. The opening sequences give us a good look at this. From there, things take an interesting direction (and mind you, I’m trying to avoid dropping spoilers here) for both the future of The Punisher, and Fury’s team of Ultimates. Bloody, brutal, and cutting-edge, I really dug the debut issue of ULTIMATE COMICS AVENGERS 2 #1, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this one takes us. Leinil Yu’s art is incredible, and it really has us on the hook for more. While we feel that it’s a pretty good jumping on point, we do still have the original run of ULTIMATE AVENGERS #1-6 well-stocked here at Third Eye for you to get caught up with. Click here for a preview of ULTIMATE COMICS AVENGERS 2 #1 RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE is a true tribute to the old days of horror comics when they were grimy, violent, and subversive things. It features a “slasher” inspired by the likes of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers. The story focuses on a horror character created by a duo of comics writers who inspires a real-life serial killer in the style of their creation. The way that co-writer Gray describes it as “THE HANGOVER” meets “SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.” A weird fusion of different genres that takes on one of society’s biggest fears: that video games, comics, music and movies will create some sort of Frankenstein’s monster. I’m looking over the preview pages, and it looks pretty badass so far. A bit of sharp humor, mixed with a true, old school splatterpunk horror comic, and it’s definitely violent as hell. It’s a clever story wrapped up in the genre cliches of ’80s slasher flicks, and we highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good horror comic, or is a fan of all those old school slasher movies. Click here to read an interview with Palmiotti and Gray about RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE IT’S SIEGE MADNESS THIS WEDNESDAY AS THIRD EYE AS WE NEAR THE CONCLUSION OF MARVEL’S BIGGEST EVENT IN YEARS! THE STORY CONTINUES THIS WEEK IN THOR #609, THUNDERBOLTS #143, NEW AVENGERS #64, MIGHTY AVENGERS #36, and MORE! First off, this week, we’ve got NEW AVENGERS #64which concludes the SIEGE arc running through NEW AVENGERS. I read the advance of this, and it’s probably my favorite issue of the SIEGE tie-ins for NEW AVENGERS so far. The story is taking place right around the same time as the Asgard-crumbling events, and it really shows an very crucial angle on some key Marvel characters that doesn’t get shown in the pages of SIEGE #3. I don’t want to drop any spoilers, but this one is a great read, and long-time NEW AVENGERS fans will especially get a kick out of where the story is heading.
And now this week in THOR #609, things are really getting crazy as we witness the forces of HAMMER raiding the Asgardians amidst the destruction of Asgard. Loki and Balder finally going head to head, and in the midst of this Thor is on a one way mission against an opponent that could rock him and Asgard to their very core: Ragnarok, AKA, the Thor clone that debuted way back in CIVIL WAR.
Click here for the official THIRD EYE SIEGE CHECKLIST IRON MAN 2 PUBLIC IDENTITY #1 - THIS 3-ISSUE LIMITED SERIES BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND IRON MAN FILMS! A NEW TALE OFFICIALLY IN CONTINUITY WITH THE STORY OF THE MOVIES! Basically, Public Identity is a limited series that fleshes out the events that happened between the end of IRON MAN, and the beginning of IRON MAN 2. Since the sequel to IRON MAN takes place months after Stark’s epic announcement of him being Iron Man, there were quite a few things that happened in the life of Stark and Iron Man between that and this. So, you could basically say that IRON MAN PUBLIC IDENTITY is IRON MAN 1.5 as it kind of sets us up nicely for what’s to come in IRON MAN 2. Click here for a preview of IRON MAN 2: PUBLIC IDENTITY #1 INCORRUPTIBLE #5 – ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NEW SERIES CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY, AS THE ORIGIN OF MAX DARING’S SIDEKICK, JAILBAIT, IS REVEALED! Not reading INCORRUPTIBLE? Well, here’s why you should be… while Waid is doing a fantastic job of taking the whole “Superman gone Evil” thing in new and exciting directions, it’s INCORRUPTIBLE where we’re really seeing a lot of new ground being tread. Nobody does the Superman Gone Evil thing as good as Waid has been in IRREDEEMABLE, there’s no doubt about that, but nobody hardly touches on what happens when the big bad evil supervillain tries to go right.. at all. And, this is why INCORRUPTIBLE has become such a big deal for us to look forward to. Here’s some back-story.. in the world of IRREDEEMABLE and INCORRUPTIBLE, the world’s most powerful superhero, The Plutonian (think your classic Superman-esque figure here) goes mad and turns on the world he once protected. In the rain of fire and death the Plutonian has unleashed, big-time super-villain bad guy (picture a mix of Batman’s TWO-FACE, and Spider-man’s SANDMAN), Max Danger, realizes that someone needs to step up. He sees this as his opportunity for redemption, and begins his path to set the world right, and what appears to be, protect it from the Plutonian. Of course, the most interesting thing about INCORRUPTIBLE, is much like with IRREDEEMABLE, where elements that’re familiar to us as comic readers are turned on their heads, or further explored by Waid as he toys with the dynamics of his world. Watching Max Danger try to do the right thing, but making all the wrong moves to do it, is fascinating, and adds a very compelling aspect to the world. Ontop of all this, the world that Waid is building between INCORRUPTIBLE and IRREDEEMABLE is probably one of the most exciting, new superhero universes we’ve seen come to be. It all comes together in a very natural, non-forced way, where the characters, major and minor, see development through the course of the story. If you want some good, cutting edge comic awesomeness, we couldn’t recommend INCORRUPTIBLE or IRREDEEMABLE enough. Wanna get caught up? We’ve currently got issues 1,2,3, and 4 of INCORRUPTIBLE in stock for you to get caught up with, and as for IRREDEEMABLE, we have both volumes 1 and 2 of the trade paperbacks, as well as the issues you’d need to catch up following volume 2. Give these series a try if you’re looking for a really fresh take on the world of superhumans. Click here for a preview of INCORRUPTIBLE #5 EIGHTBALL & GHOST WORLD CREATOR DAN CLOWES DEBUTS BRAND NEW GRAPHIC NOVEL THIS WEDNESDAY! Anyways, this Wednesday, Clowes will be unleashing a new graphic novel, WILSON, which is being billed as Clowes’s first original graphic novel. Meaning that none of this has been serialized in issues of EIGHTBALL before. Wilson is a completely new story, which focuses on a bitter, lonely man named Wilson. This graphic novel takes us in and out of Wilson’s life through stand-alone vignettes that contain gags that stick in your throat, instead of going down easy. The whole thing combined with Clowes’s trademark style of artwork fuses together to give us a story that follows one lonely man’s existence and his desire to pull himself out of the repetitions of hostility and failure. In other words, Clowes is giving us a slab of misanthropic misery that’s just as brilliant as all of his other work. This one’s highly recommended for anyone who’s into indie comics, and I really can’t express how excited I am about it. Part of that might be the nostalgia of being a snot-nosed kid finding Eightball hidden on a comic rack somewhere, and reading it like 15 times in the back of my parent’s car on the way to Ocean City, but, seriously, Clowes does some fantastic work, and if you haven’t been turned onto his stuff yet, then give him a shot. Other Dan Clowes stuff we recommend:
And, of course, there’s a ton more out there too, but those are just a few off th top of my head that I’d recommend checking out here at Third Eye. And, rest assured you can find ALL of Clowes’s stuff on our shelves here, ’cause dammit, it’s good comics! :) FILM-MAKER KEVIN SMITH’S GREEN HORNET #3 CONTINUES THE HIT REVIVAL OF THE CLASSIC PULP HERO! SOMEONE WILL DIE THIS WEDNESDAY, BUT WHO WILL IT BE?! And, now, this Wednesday, the big buzz is which Green Hornet character is going to bite it. While Dynamite has released a series of teaser images (like the one above), they’re being pretty tight-lipped with who it is that’s gonna bite it, and have given us several images teasing just who might be the one to bite the dust. If you’ve missed out on checking out Green Hornet, don’t even sweat it, because we have plenty of the first two issues in stock to get you caught up. Check it out this Wednesday! FLASH REBIRTH HARDCOVER ARRIVES THIS WEEK COLLECTING THE LIMITED SERIES THAT BROUGHT BARRY ALLEN BACK, AND LEADS DIRECTLY INTO THE HIT NEW ONGOING FLASH SERIES! FROM THE CREATIVE TEAM THAT BROUGHT YOU GREEN LANTERN REBIRTH! I’ll go on record as saying that the Flash #1 (from the new ongoing series by Johns) was probably my favorite book I read that week, maybe only being beat out by Brightest Day #0 (only ’cause I’m a sucker for Deadman, and Maxwell Lord). And, having set down and read FLASH REBIRTH 1-6 in it’s entirety once the series has ended, I have a much better understanding and appreciation for where Johns is headed with the new Flash series. So, if you’ve been waiting for The Flash to get good again, wait no longer, jump on with Flash Rebirth, and then check out the brand new ongoing series that’s totally kick-ass. Click here to read more about FLASH REBIRTH THE SECOND COMING CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN X-FORCE #26 *X-MEN SECOND COMING PT 5* – FIND OUT WHY THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DAMN X-MEN STORYLINES IN A VERY LONG TIME! AND TRUST US, FOLKS, THIS ONE’S GOT A HUGE SURPRISE! This week, the 5th chapter of X-MEN SECOND COMING takes place in X-FORCE #26, and I’m pretty pumped. The artwork on X-FORCE is always top notch, whether it’s Choi or Crain, it’s always gorgeous, and getting to see Nightcrawler, Cyclops, and company being done by Choi is pretty killer. Also, after the events of X-MEN LEGACY last week, it’s pretty damn cool to see Rogue as an interesting character again. Another stnad-out about the SECOND COMING has been the bad guys. It’s been a while since we’ve seen X-Villains that were this cool, and the whole concept of Bastion, Cameron Hodge, Trask and others using their Human League to hunt down Hope is pretty interesting. Best part about it? The bad guys actually do something here. There’s a ton of action that’s running through this storyline, and it’s not the anti-climatic letdown that a lot of past recent X-Storylines have been. As for this week’s chapter, the less I say the better, as there’s not a lot that can be said without dropping spoilers. All I can say is that this one has one hell of a surprise, and definitely shows that no one is safe during the events of SECOND COMING. For those of you who haven’t yet hopped aboard with SECOND COMING, we’ve currently got all the chapters in stock that you need to get caught up. STUFF OF LEGEND ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY IN TRADE PAPERBACK! ONE OF THE THIRD EYE FAVORITES OF 2009, THIS SERIES DELIVERS A VISCERAL, TRIPPY “SAVING PRIVATE RYAN” meets “TOY STORY” BY WAY OF GUIELERMO DEL TORO KIND OF EXPERIENCE! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! So, what is STUFF OF LEGEND? The way that I often describe it in terms of style and content is a cross between the gritty, dark violent turmoil of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and then a kind of surreal, creepy take on TOY STORY… if it was directed by Guilermo Del Toro. Seriously though, it’s a very cool story, basically a young boy during WW 2 is kidnapped by the boogeyman, and his toys come to life to crossover into the Boogeyman’s realm to rescue him. And, when they do crossover, they become much more intimidating versions of themselves. In other words, the cuddly Teddy Bear becomes a giant rip-your-head-off grizzly bear, and the Jack-In-The-Box shows his meanstreak. The book is a fantastic story in it’s simplicity of dealing with toys come to life and the boogeyman, but there are themes much more complex at play such as love, loyalties, betrayal, war, and death. The story takes a very dark turn at the end of the first chapter, especially. And, the artwork is fantastic. The artwork, with it’s sepia-tone style of coloring, really pulls you in, and makes you feel like you’re THERE in the story. It fits the nature, and the mood of the story completely, and really makes the book stand out. The next arc of STUFF OF LEGEND is due out this summer, but in the mean-time, the fine folks at Th3rd World have put together this fantastic trade paperback collection. Make sure you snag a copy this week, and find out why nearly everyone at the shop is raving about STUFF OF LEGEND. THE WAKING #3 CONTINUES “WONDERLAND” CREATOR RAVEN GREGORY’S TWISTED, AND KILLER NEW HORROR SERIES! And, the detectives who’re investigating these murders are dealing with the moral dilemma of whether they should dig deeper into the murders that could be seen as justice. The second issue really kept the dread that the first issue had going for it building, and that’s where the zombies, and buckets of blood came into play. Now, this Wednesday, the third issue of THE WAKING hits, and we can’t wait to read more. Gregory and Drujiniu are really delivering an atmospheric, mentally and visually creepy horror story that you just don’t see that much anymore. Sure, it’s bloody, and sure it’s violent, but there’s definitely a concerted effort to really deliver an atmosphere of dread, and creepiness. It actually has a slight E.C horror comics feel to it, but, without as much humor. If you missed issue #1, or issue #2, we’ve still got limited quantities of both to get you caught up. So, check ‘em out this Wednesday! Click here to check out a video trailer for THE WAKING STAFF PICKS Steve - AMERICAN VAMPIRE #2 = Dude, the second issue of this new VERTIGO series totally blew me away. The whole take on how the biology of vampires work, and the development of the Pearl character was fantastic. This series could be to vampires, what Walking Dead was to zombies. Awesome stuff. Trish – CROSSED FAMILY VALUES #1 = You know, I thought Garth Ennis couldn’t push the envelope any further than he did, but then David Lapham comes along and rips the envelope to shreds with the new CROSSED series. Read it, and when you see the ending.. you’ll know what I mean. Torma – GREEN LANTERN #53 *BRIGHTEST DAY* = One of the best issues of Green Lantern I’ve read, and that’s saying a lot. The way the relationship between the New Guardians is touched on, as well as the cliffhanger at the end were great. Matt – JOE THE BARBARIAN #4 = Morrison continues to increase the epic feel of this new Vertigo limited series. Each issue gives this one a modern day Lord of the Rings-kinda feel, and I’m really loving it. Very cool fantasy storytelling that you don’t see done this well often. |

THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 11/18/09
But all of this was just a prelude to what is sure to be one of the biggest Spidey stories in history, and that’s The Gauntlet. The Gauntlet is a new storyline (which begins in this week’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #612) which will be a year long marathon for Spidey, where old classic Spider-man villains are brought back with a vicious new edge. The first of which is Electro, who I don’t think we’ve seen since the events on the Raft in NEW AVENGERS. And of course, we’ll be seeing the Vulture, The Rhino, and more as the storyline continues. So, what’s the scoop on Electro’s return? Well, here you have one of the coolest Spidey villains, when it comes to visual appearance, and his powers, but he’s also one of the least-respected. This first story arc in the Gauntlet is about that, and from what we’ve been told Electro’s powers have been considerably amped up. The thing is as Electro makes the transition into middle-age, his metabolism changes, and so do his powers. They’re more erratic, and less easy to control. And, that’s where the amping up comes from, because he’s going to be getting a pretty surprising Marvel villain to help stabilize his powers and make him meaner, and better than before. Of course, Electro’s big motivation may not center around Spidey, but a sense of outrage over the fact that the fortune he’s accumulated over the years was lost in the economic meltdown. Now, he’s almost somewhat of a folk hero, electrocuting corrupt corporate fat cats…. but of course, he’s still a bad dude, and when Spidey gets in his way, he’s going to toast him. Now, beyond the whole Electro thing, the one thing we know that is going to be an ongoing theme in the GAUNTLET storyline is how these familiar villains returning to bring pain to Peter Parker’s life are going to be coming after him one after the other after the other. We know that big changes are expected to happen, and this storyline is supposed to be a real no holds barred kind of assault on the character. IRREDEEMABLE writer MARK WAID is going to be penning this arc that begins in Amazing Spider-man #612. And, the artist, someone who I haven’t heard of is a very bold and interesting choice for Spidey. I think the art looks great, and it has a very gritty, almost Vertigo-esque vibe to it, that really adds a whole new level of darkness to what is sure to be one hell of an arc. But I think we all know what’s really cool about this: It’s classic Spidey villains coming back with a bang! TWO MORE LANTERN RINGS ARRIVE THIS WEEK AT THIRD EYE! BLUE LANTERN RING & VIOLET “STAR SAPPHIRE” RING! ALONG, WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE TIE-INS… ADVENTURE COMICS #4 *RETURN OF SUPERBOY PRIME* &OUTSIDERS #24! PLUS BLACK LANTERN SOLOMON GRUNDY FACES BIZARRO & MAN-BAT IN SUPERMAN/BATMAN #66! Now, onto this week, we’ve got two tie-ins, both of which look good, but one of which I’m personally VERY excited for. And, that’s the ADVENTURE COMICS #4. Reasons why? Well, first off.. it’s written by GEOFF JOHNS, you know, the guy who’s been writing the main BLACKEST NIGHT series (and GREEN LANTERN) all this time, and pretty much masterminding all of this killer suff. And, then secondly, it’s featuring the return of everyone’s favorite mass-murdering crybaby, SUPERBOY PRIME. And, then, to top it all off, it looks like he’s met his match, as the Black Lanterns know just the buttons to push to make Superboy Prime’s heart all tasty for them to gobble down. This is probably going to be one of the best ring-related tie-ins, being how Adventure Comics is already a stellar read, and then the addition of a fan-favorite villain like SUPERBOY PRIME. Ontop of all that, when you purchase ADVENTURE COMICS #4, you get a FREE Blue Lantern ring! And, then, next up, we’ve got OUTSIDERS #24, which spins directly out of the events of BLACKEST NIGHT TITANS. Black Lantern Terra is back with a vengeance, and she wants to gobble down the hearts of Geo-Force, and the Outsiders. When you purchase OUTSIDERS #24, you’ll receive a free VIOLET *STAR SAPPHIRE* ring. To be honest on this one, I think it could go either way. I REALLY liked Blackest Night Titans, and Peter Tomasi has proven himself as a really stellar writer (handling a good chunk of tie-in stuff already for Blackest Night, in addition to the killer work he’s done on Green Lantern Corps, and underrated miniseries like GOTHAM UNDERGROUND). However, I haven’t been following OUTSIDERS as closely, so it really could go either way. And, as a side note… dude, Booster Gold and Rebels were both AWESOME last week. I expected the Booster to be really good, but the REBELS, I wasn’t too sure about. I actually went back and checked out most of the back issues on the series, because I enjoyed that issue so much. It’s a good book, really deserves a look. The artwork, and writing are both top notch, and the whole idea of a superteam for hire is pretty damn cool. I don’t know, it was awesome…. the ending of REBELS #10 is great, even if you haven’t been following the series. A big twist as a perfect fit for the Sinestro Corps is chosen. And, the whole plot running with Starro the Conqueror (turns out those starfish things were just his drones, but Starro himself is an actual humanoid warlord) is pretty damn cool. Finally, on the Blackest Night plate this week, we’ve got what’s sure to be the most humorous of the Blackest Night tie-ins with SUPERMAN/BATMAN #66.Yes, it’s Black Lantern Solomon Grundy versus Bizarro & Man-Bat in this one-shot Blackest Night tie-in. THIRD EYE GRAPHIC NOVEL SPOTLIGHT:BATMAN BATTLE FOR THE COWL HC, GREEN LANTERN CORPS – EMERALD ECLIPSE HC *PRELUDE TO BLACKEST NIGHT*, WAR OF KINGS HARDCOVER, ROBERT KIRKMAN’S DESTROYER, DARK AVENGERS VOLUME 1 AND NEW AVENGERS VOLUME 11 TRADE PAPERBACKS… A BIG WEEK FOR GREAT TRADES & HARDCOVERS! Man, it is a stacked week for good trades and hardcovers. Some real blockbusters too, like the Battle for the Cowl hardcover, and the WAR OF KINGS hardcover. Anyways, here’s a quick rundown of what’s arriving this week… The biggest Batman story of last Spring, and the genesis of all the awesome stuff happening now in the Bat-universe. This is the story where Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Dick Grayson, and many more are all racing to figure out who will be the man to wear the mantle of the Bat. A great read, with some fantastic artwork. This is definitely one of those must-read Batman graphic novels. War of Kings was one of the hippest little Marvel events of 2009. In the shadow of big events like DARK REIGN, War of Kings continued to do what stories like ANNIHILATION and ANNIHILATION CONQUEST had done before it, and that’s strengthen and enrich the cosmic end of the Marvel Universe. The entire WAR OF KINGS saga is now collected here, along with WAR OF KINGS ASCENSION 1-4, WAR OF KINGS DARKHAWK 1-2, WAR OF KINGS WARRIORS, WAR OF KINGS WHO WILL RULE, WAR OF KINGS SAVAGE WORLD OF SAKAAR and WAR OF KINGS MARVEL SPOTLIGHT. This one’s a massive tome of space opera awesomeoness. A cult favorite from last year. DESTROYER from Robert Kirkman (writer of WALKING DEAD & INVINCIBLE) is one of the most violent, bloody things the writer has ever done. It’s the story of the Destroyer, a masked vigilante, who is now in his senior ages, and on his way to the grave. So what’s he do? Hunt down and slaughter every supervillain he’s ever encountered to leave the world a safer place for his family. DARK AVENGERS volume 1 collects the first six issues of the biggest Marvel series to launch in 2009. Imagine this, the Avengers are composed of predominantly bad guys, and their leader.. Norman Osborn! Killer story, killer art. A great read. Image has been really making a name for itself these last couple of years. I personally credit the success of fresh new series like WALKING DEAD and INVINCIBLE as a big part of their new direction. They’ve really cemented their place in the comics industry as a publisher that is not afraid to take chances, and put out quirky yet fresh new ideas that end up being the one thing we love here most at Third Eye: damn good comics. Cowboy Ninja Viking is a perfect example of this. This is a story about a world where individuals with multiple personality disorder are turned into agents of destruction known as triplets. They hone in on three dominant personalities, and turn them into assassins capable of some serious mayhem. And of course, the star of this series, Cowboy Ninja Viking, has three personalities that are constantly at odds with each other. The ninja being the thinker, the Viking being the killer, and the Cowboy being the loose cannon. What you get is a humorous yet ultra-violent tale where the three personalities cause the man they reside in to do horrible, and reckless things. And, now in this week’s issue #2, we get to see COWBOY NINJA VIKING going head to head with the Triplet introduced at the beginning (and end) of issue #1. Yes, it’s the fellow in the deep sea diver helmet on the cover. And, yes it will be awesome. The title of the book makes it seem like it’s going to be just a straight humor book. You know, something that would be a good meme on the web, but Cowboy Ninja Viking reminds you more of a frenetic Quentin Tarantino meets Takashi Miike movie than it does a one-trick pony joke. Also, a big addition to the awesomeoness of the series we think is the unique artwork by Riley Rossmo (who also does PROOF for Image, a book about a Bigfoot that works for the FBI, flesh-eating faeries, and monsters that wear human skin… we recommend checking it out!). The art in this series is very stylized, and carries the story well. The tones, and pacing really capture the frenetic concept of the book. We’ve got #1s in stock here at Third Eye in case you missed issue #1, and if you did, then we highly miss checking out this series this week. For those of you who got the first one, and dug it, be sure to check out this follow-up issue this week. The first one had a lot to cram in, with the setting up of the world, and introducing the characters (and that was my only complaint, too much going on), but it looks like the second one is going to take all the awesome points of the first and really carry the story forward. Plus, it looks like it’s going to be one seriously bloody throwdown! Click here for an interview with the creators of COWBOY NINJA VIKING to learn more about the series, and what they have planned for it! JOSS WHEDON’S DR. HORRIBLE SING-A-LONG BLOG GETS THE COMIC TREATMENT THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE “DR.HORRIBLE” ONE-SHOT! So, whether you’re a huge FIREFLY nut, or a big BUFFY fan, you’re probably also a DR. HORRIBLE fan, and you know you it’s time to feed your Whedon fix! Click here to see the preview of the DR. HORRIBLE one-shot FRANKENCASTLE BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY INPUNISHER #11 *FRANKENCASTLE PT 1*FOLLOWING THE SHOCKING DISMEMBERMENT OF THE PUNISHER IN DARK REIGN THE LIST: PUNISHER ONE-SHOT Now, beginning this week, Frankencastle, featuring the creative team of Rick Remender and Tony Moore (known for their cult favorite FEAR AGENT, and Tony Moore as the original artist of WALKING DEAD), shows us a bizarre take on the character of the Punisher. Everything is very hush hush on just what this storyline is going to entail, but after the huge ending of the LIST PUNISHER one-shot, combined with the stellar creative team onboard for this, we’re expecting it to be pretty cool. But seriously, this is going to go either one of two ways: Frankencastle is going to be REALLY REALLY cool, or REALLY REALLY not cool. The idea is definitely out there, and the whole concept of the Punisher being resurrected as an undead monstrosity is pretty damn out of left field. But, hey, sometimes ideas that sound ridiculous and impossible, are just so ridiculous that they end up being incredible. This was the case with Marvel Zombies and it’s original inception (of course, now it’s been run into the ground a bit, but man when that first series hit, it was fresh as hell). So, I guess, FRANKENCASTLE ranks up there as the title I am most curious about this week, and expecting the most surprise from. Clickhere to check out a preview of PUNISHER #11 *FRANKENCASTLE PT 1* DARK AVENGERS #11 – WHO IS THE MOLECULE MAN, AND WHY IS NORMAN OSBORN TERRIFIED OF HIM? Who is the obscure villain the Molecule Man? And, why is Norman Osborn sweating this one big time? And, how the hell are the Dark Avengers going to fight a being that control the very molecules that make them up? The road to Seige continues, as Osborn’s plans continue to unravel… and now it’s time to see what the mysterious cabal of Molecule Man, the Beyonder, Enchantress, and Mephisto have to say about things. BLACKEST NIGHT SCRIBE GEOFF JOHNS’SFLASH REBIRTH #5 ARRIVES AFTER MUCH ANTICIPATION! And, then Geoff Johns does what he does for nearly every friggin’ DCU Character, and made me like Barry Allen. Flash Rebirth has been as much about making Barry Allen into an accessible, modern 21st century character as it has been about the actual in-continuity return of the character. Johns has been breathing new life into Barry, and since Barry’s been dead pretty much since before the modern style of storytelling that’s the mainstay in comics these days came around, he’s got pretty much a blank slate to play with. But, anyways, enough about all that.. Flash Rebirth has been awesome, the story’s been great, the art’s been incredible.. we love it. And, this week, we finally get issue #5! Click here to read more about FLASH REBIRTH #5 REALM OF KINGS ONE-SHOT KICKS OFF THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE COSMIC SAGA OF MARVEL’S ANNIHILATION/WAR OF KINGS CHARACTERS! Realm of Kings follows up on the aftermath of WAR OF KINGS (Where Blackbolt screamed off Vulcan’s skin!), and also promises the return of the original Quasar. After seeing all of the awesome things that they’ve done with characters like Darkhawk, Nova, the Guardians of the Galaxy and more, we’re very eager to see the return of Quasar here at Third Eye. Click here to check out a preview of REALM OF KINGS ONE-SHOT Also, arriving alongside the REALM OF KINGS one-shot this week is the REALM OF KINGS INHUMAN limited series that’s kicking off. After the huge part that Black Bolt and the Inhumans played in the WAR OF KINGS, we’re really excited to see how this one turns out. DARK REIGN THE LIST AMAZING SPIDER-MAN *THE LIST PT 8* DELIVERS AN EPIC CONFRONTATION BETWEEN NORMAN OSBORN AND SPIDER-MAN! But, lets be real… it’s Spider-man going up against his most hated enemy, Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin. While this whole DARK REIGN/DARK AVENGERS thing has gone on, we’ve been waiting and wondering about how Spidey would play into the mix, what with Osborn being his mortal foe, and now it looks like we’re going to find out. This is the story where Norman Osborn decides to finally execute Spider-man once and for all. Now, will he succeed? While we’re not expecting a Spidey death, we do expect big universe-shaking ramifications that make this one-shot a very special DARK REIGN THE LIST chapter. Click here to check out the preview of DARK REIGN THE LIST AMAZING SPIDER-MAN *DARK REING THE LIST PT 8* SPIDER-WOMAN #3 – THE BEST TITLE YOU’RE NOT READING! PURE ESPIONAGE AWESOMEONESS COURTESY OF CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED CREATIVE TEAM BENDIS & MALEEV Dude, if you’re not reading Spider-woman, you are missing out. This series has one of the best teams in comics working on it, with Bendis & Maleev (who did what’s in my opinion one of the best all-time Daredevil runs), and trust us, it’s GOOD. We know, we know, skrulls are played out, but the skrulls really play a VERY VERY minor role in this. It’s more about Jessica Drew working as a kind of a government-sponsored bounty hunter that tracks down aliens in hiding (NOT JUST SKRULLS!). The writing is 100% on-point, and the artwork is PERFECT for the series. Maleev’s gritty pencils pull you in, and don’t let you out. Currently, Spider-woman’s knee deep in trouble in the dark alleys of Madripoor, and Madame Hydra wants to bring her home to the nest. The tone, and feel of the book kind of reminds you of a more brutal, super-power charged La Femme Nikita, and if you remember that show, then you know what we’re talking about. Either way, give Spider-woman a shot. We currently have issues 1, and 2 both in stock, so it’s relatively easy to catch up. Clickhereto read the preview of SPIDER-WOMAN #3! VICTORIAN UNDEAD #1 - SHERLOCK HOLMES VERSUS FLESH-EATING ZOMBIES? YOU BETCHA! A GREAT STEAMPUNK-ISH NEW SERIES FROM WILDSTORM, THE FOLKS WHO BROUGHT YOU NORTH 40! What’s better than the adventures of the world’s most famous detective? Well, when you pit the world’s most famous detective against hordes of flesh-eating zombie freaks, that’s what! Honestly, folks, I got to read a bit of this, and it was pretty fun. I really have no idea what to expect as the premise sounds so ridiculous, and over-the-top… that really, anything can happen. But, the art is tight, the story looks pretty good, and the zombie angle, while cool, doesn’t look to be the only thing this book is carrying. It has a very Steampunk Adventures of Watson and Holmes kind of thing going on, that I think is pretty damn cool. Click here to check out a preview of VICTORIAN UNDEAD #1 TRANSFORMERS #1 – BRAND NEW ONGOING SERIES FEATURING G1-ERA TRANSFORMERS! So it’s a welcome change to see IDW rolling out an ongoing Transformers comic finally. And it’s everything you’d want out of a good TF comic… good art, a writer who knows the characters well , and an overall direction for the characters. THE AUTHORITY.. IS NOW GOOD AGAIN! CHECK OUT THE AUTHORITY: THE LOST YEAR THIS WEEK! Man, the Authority was one of my favorite books when I was a teenager. This is back when Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch first kicked it off, and then Mark Millar and Frank Quitely took it over. I mean, after those two creative teams left, it never really was quite the same. Dan Abnett did some pretty cool work on it, and Brubaker had a nice little run, but nothing ever matched the level of those first two runs. If you haven’t already read the original Authority stuff, I recommend snagging AUTHORITY RELENTLESS (volume 1), AUTHORITY UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT (volume 2), and AUTHORITY TRANSFER OF POWER. Those are some of the best superhero comics of the late 90s, early 2000s, and they really paved the way for a lot of what we have now. In fact, I credit the Authority with helping make the big widescreen way of superhero storytelling we have now so popular. See, without the Authority, we wouldn’t have had Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s Ultimates, and without the Ultimates, well, lets just say I don’t think the Avengers would be the mega-popular team they are now. In other words, the Authority redefined the dynamics of superteams, and their place in the world. Gritty, realistic, and sometimes violent as hell, the Authority took the perfect balance of social issues, politics, and bigger than life spaceships crashing into city spires action, and made it into one crazy awesome series. The last real glimmer of hope I had for the Authority was when Grant Morrison and Gene Ha were going to do a run on the series. They only did two issues, and then the book kind of was left in limbo. The plot? The Authority crosses dimensions, and ends up in OUR world, our physical world, where they’re just comic books. There’s a very surreal moment where a couple members of the team are in a comic shop, looking at a copy of the Relentless graphic novel. And of course, with them coming into our world, it means that bad mojo is happening on our planet. Now, of course, these ideas were explored later in more detail with books like 1985, but either way, we’re excited to see the Authority back. Wildstorm has reissued the first two issues in a collected comic called THE AUTHORITY LOST YEAR READER, that’s the AUTHORITY LOST YEAR 1 and 2, for only $2.99. And, now the series is being finished with Grant Morrison’s blessing by the very talented KEITH GIFFEN (he made the Justice League totally awesome way back in the day, and has since done some crazy good stuff like 52, ANNIHILATION, and more). Issue #3 ships this week, and we still have plenty of the AUTHORITY LOST YEAR READER available for you to catch up with. Click here to read more about the AUTHORITY LOST YEAR! VIKING #4 DELIVERS MORE OF THAT GOODFELLAS MEETS THE 9TH CENTURY MAYHEM THAT WE’VE COME TO LOVE THIS WEDNESDAY! It’s been a while since issue #3, but we’re just as pumped for the new issue of VIKING, especially after how awesome the third one was. Viking is pretty simply explained.. it’s the story of organized crime, in the Viking era. And, it is brutal as all hell. The real standout though about Viking is the gorgeous artwork that accompanies each issue. Finn and Egil thought they had the perfect heist to pull, but now they’re falling deep into their own personal hell without any way out. Brutal, awesome, and totally great, this one’s definitely guaranteed to be well worth the wait.
This story has been brewing since the return of Doc Ock in Amazing Spider-man #600, and I’ve gotta say, Marvel’s got me stoked. The Spidey books really begin to make a turn towards being better with American Son last year, and then a big step towards improvement with the turning points of issue #600. Old, forgotten villains slowly began to return in the pages of ASM, and the new takes on the Chameleon and Doc Ock, were both very good.

COWBOY NINJA VIKING #2 - MULTIPLE PERSONALITY MAYHEM! IN THIS FOLLOW-UP TO THE SMASH HIT NEW IMAGE SERIES!

We know that a good deal of you guys are big Whedon fans, and hey, so are we! This is why we figured we’d cast the Third Eye spotlight on this very special DR.HORRIBLE one-shot comic from the fine folks at DARK HORSE. Picking right up from the DR.HORRIBLE SING-A-LONG BLOG, we get to see the very first encounter of DR. HORRIBLE and CAPTAIN HAMMER.

The conclusion of last month’s DARK REIGN THE LIST PUNISHER one-shot was a HUGE shock. HUGE! It’s not often that Marvel surprises us all like that without any kind of warning or hints. In case you missed it, the Punisher was brutally dismembered by Daken (Dark Wolverine), decapitated, and mutilated, his body parts were scattered about.

Dark Avengers continues to keep going strong as a solid monthly read. The last page of last month’s DARK AVENGERS #10 was pretty epic indeed, and now the effects of that last page are going to unravel in this week’s newest issue.

Despite the delays, we are still extremely excitetd about getting the next issue of GEOFF JOHNS’S FLASH REBIRTH. Now, as someone who grew up reading comics in the ’90s… Wally was my Flash. He’s the one I grew up with as the Flash. All those great high-energy Mark Waid Flash story arcs, and then the later Mark Millar, Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns arcs. They were my bread and butter as a kid. I loved em. Barry was before my time, and I never really got to know the character. Never really had a huge attachment to him.

One of the most impressive relaunches of this decade for Marvel has been their revival of their cosmic characters. What were once underused, and overlooked characters have slowly been turned into some of the most compelling series coming out. It all began in the pages of ANNIHILATION and ANNIHILATION conquest (now available in trade paperback) and then continued last year in the pages of WAR OF KINGS (arriving this week in hardcover). Now, the REALM OF KINGS begins, and continues the trend in high-action, bigger than life space opera sci-fi awesomeoness set against the backdrop of the Marvel landscape. Just take everything that is cool about stuff like WARHAMMER 40K, and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, and apply it to the world of Marvel Superheroes, and you’ll get the Marvel Cosmic-verse.
Click here to see the preview of REALM OF KINGS INHUMANS #1!

Out of all the Dark Reign The List one-shots, I feel that this is going to be the biggest, or at least on the level of the Punisher one-shot. The creative team lined up for this one is stellar, with Adam Kubert handling the art chores. And, it’s also the final chapter of THE LIST, and plays a huge part in what is going to be the conclusion of this whole Dark Reign thing.

Finally! An ongoing Transformers series! And it’s featuring all of the characters that we love and grew up with here at Third Eye. Seriously though, lets face it, if you grew up in the ’80s, you’ve got a fondness for Transformers, or GI JOE, or both. And, while series like Maximum Dinobots and All Hail Megatron have been good, solid reads, the non-stop random mini-series, one-shots, and so forth have lacked consistency.

THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS AT THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 11/18/09

<br><br>And, as a side note… dude, Booster Gold and Rebels were both AWESOME last week. <br><br>Finally, on the Blackest Night plate this week, we’ve got what’s sure to be the most humorous of the Blackest Night tie-ins with <a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajatel_dY3vTCbvnQeO2-VeUVmvr531AJLLFVRh6eG4tW_KVpOjGnOI-hlbnoxzYbEOyOnoENS76kEwCl7SWSRaIg==” shape=”rect”>SUPERMAN/BATMAN #66.</a>Yes, it’s Black Lantern Solomon Grundy versus Bizarro & Man-Bat in this one-shot Blackest Night tie-in. <br><br><br><font style=”font-family: ‘Comic Sans MS’, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; ” size=”4″>THIRD EYE GRAPHIC NOVEL SPOTLIGHT:<span style=”color: rgb(255, 0, 0); “>BATMAN BATTLE FOR THE COWL HC</span>, GREEN LANTERN CORPS – EMERALD ECLIPSE HC *PRELUDE TO BLACKEST NIGHT*, WAR OF KINGS HARDCOVER, ROBERT KIRKMAN’S DESTROYER, DARK AVENGERS VOLUME 1 AND NEW AVENGERS VOLUME 11 TRADE PAPERBACKS… A BIG WEEK FOR GREAT TRADES & HARDCOVERS!</font> <IMG SRC=”http://www.dccomics.com/media/product/1/3/13356_400×600.jpg”> <br>Man, it is a stacked week for good trades and hardcovers. IN THIS FOLLOW-UP TO THE SMASH HIT NEW IMAGE SERIES!</font><br> <IMG SRC=”http://www.comicbookresources.com/assets/images/articles/1254839851.jpg”> <br>Image has been really making a name for itself these last couple of years. I personally credit the success of fresh new series like WALKING DEAD and INVINCIBLE as a big part of their new direction. They’ve really cemented their place in the comics industry as a publisher that is not afraid to take chances, and put out quirky yet fresh new ideas that end up being the one thing we love here most at Third Eye: damn good comics.<br><br>Cowboy Ninja Viking is a perfect example of this. <br><br>And, now in this week’s issue #2, we get to see COWBOY NINJA VIKING going head to head with the Triplet introduced at the beginning (and end) of issue #1. Yes, it’s the fellow in the deep sea diver helmet on the cover. And, yes it will be awesome.<br><br>The title of the book makes it seem like it’s going to be just a straight humor book. The tones, and pacing really capture the frenetic concept of the book.<br><br>We’ve got #1s in stock here at Third Eye in case you missed issue #1, and if you did, then we highly miss checking out this series this week.<br><br>For those of you who got the first one, and dug it, be sure to check out this follow-up issue this week. The first one had a lot to cram in, with the setting up of the world, and introducing the characters (and that was my only complaint, too much going on), but it looks like the second one is going to take all the awesome points of the first and really carry the story forward. Plus, it looks like it’s going to be one seriously bloody throwdown!<br><br>Click <a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajatel_dY3vTCawkWxmHw677GqHvhEnz5bAAf2JwF7yOeHCE4GHo5T8d1u8ZVRrv9icjkigAR-kQLhNysaAYyx7BxxI1BY2rNFMGMsREOKV2PI=” shape=”rect”>here</a> for an interview with the creators of COWBOY NINJA VIKING to learn more about the series, and what they have planned for it!<br><br><font style=”font-family: ‘Comic Sans MS’, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; ” size=”4″>JOSS WHEDON’S <a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); text-decoration: none; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajaa6LJoxflUafyHuxe-wLi18hKlnkKNF4PsEi-ktUuKJusM8r1wTTE_wkOQ1tofo2rblHHpDtW6eKni-2dObdlcoET2w7o-bXpP2GX6hSeuOxC3bWG9-jv_CEk3OjMNDvpStv5PZ3uI7uPm7zF68CoPSzph1UA-69-eBkAdvVJJgRFGFK5IoycAOzkP9z9Dfj9tFdv8m50e7l83W7pCL7SYg==” shape=”rect”>DR. HUGE! It’s not often that Marvel surprises us all like that without any kind of warning or hints. In case you missed it, the Punisher was brutally dismembered by Daken (Dark Wolverine), decapitated, and mutilated, his body parts were scattered about.<br><br>Now, beginning this week, Frankencastle, featuring the creative team of Rick Remender and Tony Moore (known for their cult favorite FEAR AGENT, and Tony Moore as the original artist of WALKING DEAD), shows us a bizarre take on the character of the Punisher. Everything is very hush hush on just what this storyline is going to entail, but after the huge ending of the LIST PUNISHER one-shot, combined with the stellar creative team onboard for this, we’re expecting it to be pretty cool.<br><br>But seriously, this is going to go either one of two ways: Frankencastle is going to be REALLY REALLY cool, or REALLY REALLY not cool. <br><br>So, I guess, FRANKENCASTLE ranks up there as the title I am most curious about this week, and expecting the most surprise from. <br><br>Click<a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajaaeT_SRbdQ1COwtWRCP8xBFYDkQb0xUzswe62-enXJr1hgr6XsoxN_8sAHmAVWy2PHeVOTaPH0prMpMKmmh4Uo6mtlcYcX8xsZz7DCZfXzm_eLU1k1G5o6g==” shape=”rect”>here</a> to check out a preview of <a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajaaeT_SRbdQ1COwtWRCP8xBFYDkQb0xUzswe62-enXJr1hgr6XsoxN_8sAHmAVWy2PHeVOTaPH0prMpMKmmh4Uo6mtlcYcX8xsZz7DCZfXzm_eLU1k1G5o6g==” shape=”rect”>PUNISHER #11 *FRANKENCASTLE PT 1*</a><br><br><font style=”font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; font-family: ‘Comic Sans MS’, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; ” size=”4″>DARK AVENGERS #11 – WHO IS THE MOLECULE MAN, AND WHY IS NORMAN OSBORN TERRIFIED OF HIM?<br><br></font> <IMG SRC=”http://marvel.com/i/content/st/24807new_storyimage0005677_full.jpg”> <font style=”font-family: ‘Trebuchet MS’, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; ” size=”2″>Dark Avengers continues to keep going strong as a solid monthly read. <br><br>And, then Geoff Johns does what he does for nearly every friggin’ DCU Character, and made me like Barry Allen. <br><br>But, anyways, enough about all that.. Flash Rebirth has been awesome, the story’s been great, the art’s been incredible.. we love it. <br><br>Realm of Kings follows up on the aftermath of WAR OF KINGS (Where Blackbolt screamed off Vulcan’s skin!), and also promises the return of the original Quasar. We know, we know, skrulls are played out, but the skrulls really play a VERY VERY minor role in this. It’s more about Jessica Drew working as a kind of a government-sponsored bounty hunter that tracks down aliens in hiding (NOT JUST SKRULLS!). <br><br>The writing is 100% on-point, and the artwork is PERFECT for the series. IS NOW GOOD AGAIN! CHECK OUT THE AUTHORITY: THE LOST YEAR THIS WEEK!</font><br> <IMG SRC=”http://www.dccomics.com/media/product/1/3/13443_400×600.jpg”> <br>Man, the Authority was one of my favorite books when I was a teenager. <br><br>If you haven’t already read the original Authority stuff, I recommend snagging AUTHORITY RELENTLESS (volume 1), AUTHORITY UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT (volume 2), and AUTHORITY TRANSFER OF POWER. Gritty, realistic, and sometimes violent as hell, the Authority took the perfect balance of social issues, politics, and bigger than life spaceships crashing into city spires action, and made it into one crazy awesome series.<br><br>The last real glimmer of hope I had for the Authority was when Grant Morrison and Gene Ha were going to do a run on the series. <br><br>And of course, with them coming into our world, it means that bad mojo is happening on our planet. Now, of course, these ideas were explored later in more detail with books like 1985, but either way, we’re excited to see the Authority back. <br><br>Wildstorm has reissued the first two issues in a collected comic called THE AUTHORITY LOST YEAR READER, that’s the AUTHORITY LOST YEAR 1 and 2, for only $2.99. <br><br>Click <a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajatel_dY3vTCbvnQeO2-VeUQlDSQZfQB_1i1D31pSCgczP6awHYRJcA8Cs1UDmnFedFKKnYtDQCkIw-1bBKHrAIXYvYEQrzEyv” shape=”rect”>here</a> to read more about the <a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajatel_dY3vTCbvnQeO2-VeUQlDSQZfQB_1i1D31pSCgczP6awHYRJcA8Cs1UDmnFedFKKnYtDQCkIw-1bBKHrAIXYvYEQrzEyv” shape=”rect”>AUTHORITY LOST YEAR!</a><br><br><font style=”font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline; font-family: ‘Comic Sans MS’, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; ” size=”4″><a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); text-decoration: none; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajatel_dY3vTCawkWxmHw677GqHvhEnz5bAAf2JwF7yOeHCE4GHo5T8d1u8ZVRrv9icjkigAR-kQLjHifdipIY1NgRmm9oxcROXVlwmIDaDVrw=” shape=”rect”>VIKING #4</a> DELIVERS MORE OF THAT GOODFELLAS MEETS THE 9TH CENTURY MAYHEM THAT WE’VE COME TO LOVE THIS WEDNESDAY!<br> <IMG SRC=”http://www.comicbookresources.com/assets/images/articles/1254516797.jpg”> <br></font><font style=”font-family: ‘Comic Sans MS’, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; ” size=”4″><font size=”2″><span style=”font-family: ‘Trebuchet MS’, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; “>It’s been a while since issue #3, but we’re just as pumped for the new issue of VIKING, especially after how awesome the third one was. Viking is pretty simply explained.. it’s the story of organized crime, in the Viking era. And, it is brutal as all hell. The real standout though about Viking is the gorgeous artwork that accompanies each issue. <br><br>Finn and Egil thought they had the perfect heist to pull, but now they’re falling deep into their own personal hell without any way out. <br><br>Brutal, awesome, and totally great, this one’s definitely guaranteed to be well worth the wait. <br><br>Click<a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajatel_dY3vTCYsW2LJbBgEdzXJL6N_7DNzMov4s9-molGEepBW-IppuoyEr0ldtwCJGZ0FhO2RlKELUBBAALd8AFEeFdAqHQjK” shape=”rect”> here</a> to read a preview of <a style=”color: rgb(42, 93, 176); font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; ” target=”_blank” href=”http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102828465246&s=0&e=001_IRQnbNgzrETzEiCz-WOJyx6J7706dnQJ03WgrwbQ2ZVjtw0QtwZVi2bgWDzHajatel_dY3vTCYsW2LJbBgEdzXJL6N_7DNzMov4s9-molGEepBW-IppuoyEr0ldtwCJGZ0FhO2RlKELUBBAALd8AFEeFdAqHQjK” shape=”rect”>VIKING #4</a><br></span></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></span></span></font></font></span></font></span></font></span></font></font></font></span></font></font></font></div></font>
