THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 12/23/09
THE NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA REVEALED INCAPTAIN AMERICA REBORN: WHO WILL WIELD THE SHIELD ONE-SHOT THIS WEDNESDAY!

This is it, folks… is it going to be Steve Rogers rocking the Captain America duds again, or is it going to be Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier? The question to this, and many other things surrounding the epic, sweeping story that Brubaker has laid out with REBORN are answered this Wednesday.
Now, you’re probably wondering “How come this is coming out before CAPTAIN AMERICA: REBORN #6?” Well, there’s two answers to that. The first is that Marvel has pegged this as a pre-emptive epilogue to REBORN. The other answer is that the incredible art of Bryan Hitch tends to make the man run slow, and REBORN #6 should’ve been out by now. From what Marvel has told us though, reading this issue before Cap Reborn #6 doesn’t mess with the sequence too much.
Anyways, I am very excited about this one, because not only have I been enjoying Brubaker’s REBORN storyline, but his entire run on Captain America in general has been some of the best comic reading on the shelves. So, needless to say, I’m pretty stoked to see how this one follows up, and nears it’s conclusion.
And, ontop of all that… this could possibly be (like it’s no secret) the Return of Steve Rogers as Captain America! If you would’ve told me I’d be pumped about that in 1999, I would’ve been hard-pressed to believe you. While I respect the iconic nature of Cap, and some of the great stories of the past that’ve been told with the character (my personal pre-Civil War Cap story being Mark Waid and Ron Garney’s incredible run on the series), I just never really saw that many stories that stood out with the character. In my opinion, it took the influence of Millar’s characterization of Cap in THE ULTIMATES, and then, his 616-characterization in CIVIL WAR, to really get me into the character. Luckily, right around the same time that CIVIL WAR was happening, a (at the time) unknown writer by the name of Ed Brubaker was spinning some very gritty, hard-nosed espionage-fused stories with Cap. And, I’ve been a fan of the character ever since.
Who Will Wield The Shield is kind of a summing up of the last decade of Captain America stories. And, I hate to admit, that this is probably where the road to the end of Brubaker’s run begins. Although, I could be wrong. Anyways, it looks like we’ll be seeing the big decision made between who will be wearing the mantle of Captain America… Steve Rogers, or Bucky Barnes. The thing that makes this so exciting is that the development of Bucky as a character over the course of the last 50-some issues of Brubaker’s run has been some of the best character development of a comic character I have ever seen. And, to be honest, while I’m excited to see how things play out with Rogers, I really would be sad to see Bucky not be Cap.
And, then of course, there’s those spoiler pages in the back of DARK AVENGERS and NEW AVENGERS ANNUALS from the last couple of weeks… but, are we convinced that’s who it appears to be? And, that all is what it seems? I guess we’ll find out all the answers this week in WHO WILL WIELD THE SHIELD.
Click here for a preview of CAPTAIN AMERICA REBORN WHO WILL WIELD THE SHIELD one-shot
And, for those of you who haven’t been following Brubaker’s run on Cap, I want to give you the skinny on where it begins, and why it’s been so damn good. He manages to combine elements of old school pulp fiction with a 21st century spin with the feel of old ’70s and ’80s exploitation movies. Brubaker’s Cap run has been a high-quality superhero book with a definite espionage by way of grindhouse kind of feel to it.
Where to start? CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER VOLUME 1 TRADE PAPERBACK – This trade collects the first six issues of Brubaker’s run, and begins the series with a bang by re-introducing the long-thought dead Cap sidekick, Bucky Barnes. Of course, as we learn through the course of the story, Bucky’s history is not what we thought, and his re-appearance has him as a conflicted, hardened soldier with a mission to kill Steve Rogers. From, there the story follows in CAPTAIN AMERICA WINTER SOLDIER VOLUME 2, CAPTAIN AMERICA RED MENACE 1 & 2, and so on, and so forth.
Why It’s So Good? Brubaker has managed to take the history of the Captain America series, including all of it’s somewhat B Movie-esque supervillains, and fuse it with a modernistic, 21st century espionage-fueled approach that’s had us on the edge of our seats ever since. Brubaker re-introduced Cap’s wholesome teen sidekick, and revealed his history as a cold-blooded black ops killer, then he killed Captain America himself, and put the reformed Bucky in the costume. All the while, he’s effortlessly blended old with new, and managed to tell one of the most compelling Marvel stories we’ve seen. The grindhouse feel he gives to Cap’s bigger than life supervillains (like Arnim Zola… a robot with a giant face in it’s chest) has given Cap a solid rogue’s gallery to go to bat against.
THREE BIG BLACKEST NIGHT TITLES THIS WEEK! GREEN LANTERN #49 DELIVERS ANOTHER CRUCIAL CHAPTER OF BLACKEST NIGHT!

It’s a good week for Blackest Night, folks, with three killer titles hitting the shelves of Third Eye carrying the Blackest Night banner. And, as we’ve already seen nearly everything tying into DC’s Blackest Night has been high quality reading material.
The biggest of the three, of course, is the newest issue of GREEN LANTERN with GREEN LANTERN #49. The Green Lantern monthly title has been almost as essential as the Blackest Night mini-series itself, written by Blackest Night writer Geoff Johns, and filling in the gaps between issues of the core mini-series, each issue of this title has done a great job of moving the story along and explaining all the stuff that can’t be fit into the core Blackest Night book. This week, we get to see John Stewart’s role in the Blackest Night, and it’s impact on him. John Stewart has always been one of my favorite Lanterns, and the whole GL spin on his past as US Marine is pretty freaking cool. Plus, we haven’t seen a lot on him yet in Blackest Night, and it will be cool to see some more attention put on the character.
Next up, we have the first issue of one of those killer 3-issue limited Blackest Night miniseries that have been so good, and that’s BLACKEST NIGHT JSA #1. I’m really excited about this one, for a couple of reasons. First off, I really love the Justice Society, and secondly, I really dig Wesley Dodds, the Golden Age Sandman. Also, the fact that a killer creative team consisting of James Robinson (Starman, Justice League Cry for Justice), and one of DC’s rising star artists Eddy Barrows, along with the addition of classic Kyle Rayner-era Green Lantern writer Ron Marz, makes this one an exciting book to look out for.
From the looks of the preview, and the solicits, it looks like we’ll be seeing a ton of dead JSA and JSA-related characters. Wesley Dodds, the Golden Age Sandman, of course is pretty awesome (for those of you who haven’t read it before, I highly recommend the entire run of SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATER), and I’m hoping we’ll see Ted Knight, Al Pratt, and more. Anyways, we’ll be seeing the ultimate in the heroes of today fighting the heroes of yesteryear, with Dr. Midnite vs. Dr. Midnite, Mr. Terrific vs. Mr.Terrific, Sand vs. Wesley Dodds, and more. Plus, you know Golden Age Green Lantern, Alan Scott, will be playing a big role in this, and it’ll be interesting to see where he fits into things (since his backstory and character is a tad different than most of your Green Lanterns).

Finally, to round things off, we’ve got the Teen Titans #78, which admittedly, isn’t as quite as highly anticipated as the other two, it still looks like it should follow-up on Teen Titans #77 *Blackest Night* (which was very solid, and still in stock here at Third Eye) pretty well. The thing that’s exciting to me the most about this issue is that it’s featuring a pretty sweet team-up between Deathstroke (one of my favorite DC characters), and his daughter Ravager, and of course, we know that means only one thing: they’re gonna be hacking and slashing through a mountain of Black Lanterns. And, we all know that Ravager and Deathstroke have their fair share of fallen foes, and family that’ll be rising up as Black Lanterns to dish out some ass-whippings.
AVENGERS INITIATIVE #31 *SIEGE*FEATURES SPECIAL SIEGE TIE-IN! ANOTHER DOSE OF SIEGE TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE BIGGEST MARVEL EVENT SINCE “CIVIL WAR”

The Road to Siege began with a bang a few weeks ago in the pages of SIEGE: THE CABAL, and now you can fill in another piece of the puzzle with this week’s AVENGERS INITIATIVE #31, tying into SIEGE: THE CABAL. This is where it’s explained why Taskmaster is now seated upon the Cabal, and shows Osborn’s offer, and proposals to this often overlooked (but still, badass) Marvel villain.
And, meanwhile, on the Initiative end of things.. the Initiative gets called upon to assault an enemy that’s carrying some heavy duty power. Could that enemy be Asgardian?

LAST DAYS OF AMERICAN CRIME #1ARRIVES FROM RADICAL (PUBLISHERS OF FVZA, CITY OF DUST, ect) from THE WRITER OF FEAR AGENT & PUNISHER – ONE WEEK TO COMMIT THE LAST CRIME IN AMERICAN HISTORY!

Here’s a cool one I got an advance copy of last month, and really dug. Rick Remender (writer of cult favorite FEAR AGENT, and the current Punisher run featuring Frankencastle) has made this one his new pet project, and it reads AWESOME. A great, gritty noir-influenced style of artwork matched with some fast-paced, tense storytelling make this one a very fun read.
What’s the plot? In the not too distant future, the government basically plans to transmit a secret signal that will make it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit a crime. After the complexity of crimes like identity theft, and the rates of terrorism, this is their answer to preventing things from getting worse.
And, that’s where our hero comes in to play, Graham Brick, a low-life career criminal who’s never gotten a break. And, now, he finally comes on a killer way to make the heist that’ll set him up for life. Of course, it’s announced by the media that in just one week they’ll be transmitting that whole Anti-Crime signal, and this leaves Graham with a problem: he has only one week to commit the last crime in American history.
It’s as fun as it sounds, folks, and I’m already itching to see the next one. You can click here to read a preview of LAST DAYS OF AMERICAN CRIME #1
FALL OF HULKS GAMMA ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY FEATURING ARTWORK BY JOHN ROMITA JR!

Fall of Hulks ALPHA kicked things off with an awesome, old-school feeling origin story of the Intellectia, a gathering of assorted Marvel mad scientists, ranging from obscure characters like Egghead and the Mad Thinker to big baddies like the Leader, and Dr. Doom. And, now, this week, the other half of that arrives in the pages of FALL OF HULKS GAMMA! Before, I go any further…
IT’S JOHN ROMITA JR… DRAWING THE HULK. NOT JUST THE HULK. BUT LOTS OF HULKS! What more could you want?
Seriously though, it’s not often that I get excited by the artist alone that’s attached to a book, but Romita JR was born to draw BIG. His run on Thor with Dan Jurgens in the ’90s was great, and trust me, it wasn’t because of Dan Jurgens. And, his later work on Hulk was also awesome. But enough of my fanboy freakout over Romita JR, lets get onto just what you can expect this week out of FALL OF HULKS GAMMA.
This finishes up the set-up for the biggest Hulk storyline since World War Hulk, and leaves the stage set for the Fall of the Hulks. We don’t know much, but what we do know is that a certain Hulk’s death sets the entire Hulk family of characters into an unstoppable rage, and could really dish out some serious havoc for the rest of the Marvel Universe.
For those of you keeping track, here’s a quick run down of what’s out in the line of FALL OF THE HULKS so far:
FALL OF THE HULKS ALPHA – still in stock at Third Eye
HULK #18 - still in stock at Third Eye
and now..
FALL OF HULKS GAMMA – in stock at Third Eye this Wednesday 12/23/09
CHEW #7 CONTINUES THE BEST NEW SERIES OF 2009! THE QUIRKY ADVENTURES OF A COP THAT EATS HUMAN REMAINS! GET THE TRADE WITH 1-5 for ONLY $9.99

And, of course, there’s a lone F.D.A agent standing between her and her goal, and that just happens to be Tony Chu.
What’s Chew all about? Well, picture this: all poultry is illegal due to bird flu. A state of prohibition on chicken, turkey, and more exists similar to the prohibition placed on Alcohol in the early part of the 20th century. Speak-easies serve chicken dinners. Crimes are committed to further profit in a world where poultry is treated like sought-after drugs. And, that’s just the backdrop of the story. The real kicker is the main character, Tony Chu. See, Tony Chu is a cibopath, meaning that he receives psychic impressions from whatever he eats. Eat a hamburger, see the cow getting killed. Eat an apple, smell the pesticides being sprayed. It’s a tough life. And, then one day, he somehow figures he can use his abilities to track down the names of several murdered girls through some unorthodox methods… and that brings us to now, where we have Tony Chu working for the FDA, eating the remains of the dead to solve cases. It’s one of the freshest books we’ve seen here in quite some time, and we really can’t recommend it enough.
You can pick up the trade paperback now at Third Eye consisting of CHEW #1-5 for only $9.99.

VICTORIAN UNDEAD #2 – SHERLOCK HOLMES. ZOMBIES. STEAMPUNK AWESOMENESS THROUGH AND THROUGH. Miss issue #1? We still got it in stock to catch you up!

Here’s one that was a surprise success at the shop, but I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised, because… Sherlock Holmes + Zombies = Total win. Seriously though, the new Wildstorm series VICTORIAN UNDEAD is definitely another welcome addition to the solid roster of self-contained books like NORTH 40 that Wildstorm’s been adding to it’s line-up.
So, what’s it all about? A meteor’s crashed to London, and uh oh.. the dead begin to rise after an odd sickness has taken a good part of the city. Meanwhile, Holmes and Watson are taking on some dastardly villain… who appears to be a crazy 19th century Robot. And of course, through the means of taking on this case… they get drug into this whole mess of the dead rising and trying to.. EAT PEOPLE’S BRAINS!
Seriously though, the first issue of this was a VERY solid read, and it’s got me excited about the second one. I love seeing new twists on old concepts, and this book takes two somewhat stale storytelling concepts (zombies & Sherlock Holmes), and mixes the two to make one hell of a fun read. The characterization of Holmes is on point, and it really reads like a great detective book despite the somewhat wacky premise. Not to mention, the artwork is pretty superb and does a great job of conveying the mood of the story.
Bottom line? If you’re a fan of steampunky stories, or zombies.. you should check this out, because it’s got enough of both elements to keep you coming back for more.
The second issue arrives this Wednesday, and we still have limited quantities of issue #1 in stock, so if you want to hop on, you can then.

PUNISHER #12 *FRANKENCASTLE CHAPTER 2* - THE PUNISHER… LEADER OF THE LEGION OF MONSTERS? THE SECOND ISSUE IN THE QUIRKIEST, FRESHEST-LOOKING APPROACH TO A MARVEL CHARACTER YET!
So, about a month and a half ago, the Punisher had his head lopped off by Daken (in DARK REIGN THE LIST PUNISHER one-shot). And, his body parts, all dismembered, and what-not, got dumped into the sewers. Well, they were gathered up by the Legion of Monsters. Yes. THAT Legion of Monsters. Morbius. Werewolf by Night. Man-Thing. You know the drill. And, he was cobbled together into a patchwork Frankenstein-like monstrosity. See, there’s some mystery squad of Samurai dudes running around killing all the Marvel monsters. All the Fin Fang Fooms, the Kirby giants, and of course, the ’70s frightmares like Werewolf By Night.
And, this is where the concept of Frankencastle comes in… the Legion of Monsters decides that they need his military strategy genius, and decides to put it to good use by resurrecting him as this ridiculous looking Frankenstein thing.
This sounds like it shouldn’t be good, BUT IT IS! Rick Remender (FEAR AGENT), and Tony Moore (Walking Dead, Exterminators, Fear Agent) manage to deliver an over-the-top quirky and fun read in the first issue of this book, and a lot of it is due in part to Tony Moore’s unique art-style. Plus, the colors look SHARP on Moore’s art, and fit the mood of the book perfectly.
Remender manages to keep his tongue-in-cheek without being cheesy, and after describing the concept, I’m sure you’re as puzzled by me about how he does that, but folks, he makes it work.
This one’s a real curiousity for me, I really enjoyed the first one, but page after page, I was like “WTF?”… in a good way.. in a “I have to keep reading to see where this is going to go” kind of way.
So, if you’re looking for something fun, something fresh, and something different out of Marvel, then you should definitely pick up PUNISHER #11 *FRANKENCASTLE PT 1* where the story starts. We still have it in stock here at Third Eye, in limited quantities.
For those of you like me who read the first one, and dug it, I know you’re gonna be waiting on the second part this Wednesday.

CRIMINAL: THE SINNERS #3 HITS THE SHELVES THIS WEDNESDAY! THE BEST COMIC YOU’RE NOT READING! FIND OUT WHY CRIMINAL IS A MUST-READ! ISSUES #1 & #2 STILL IN STOCK!

CRIMINAL is flat out the best crime comic I think I’ve ever read. And, that’s a tall order, because crime noir has been pretty well-represented in the world of comics over the past couple of decades. I mean, I loved me some Sin City, and 100 Bullets, but nothing tops CRIMINAL. Criminal is more than just a comic book, it’s an experience. When a new issue comes out, I can spend a good thirty minutes sunk deep within it. Every page, every panel, is packed with so much atmosphere, and storytelling that it really accomplishes that rare feat of sucking you into another world and not letting go.
The alchemy of art and story from Brubaker and Phillips pulls you in, and doesn’t let go.. and just when the story ends, leaving you on the edge of your seat… you’re still left with a good four to six pages of awesome back-matter to read about crime noir. A lot of times, Brubaker has guest-writers come in, and talk about their favorite aspects of genre fiction. Guys like Patton Oswalt rapping about their favorite crime movies from the ’60s just makes the entire package better.
And, folks, this is a book you do NOT want to wait for trade on. The back-matter does not get reprinted into the trades, so you are really missing out on the whole experience.
Seriously, there are very few books that I will proclaim universally as something everybody should be reading, but CRIMINAL is most definitely one of those books.
Now, I’ve sung it’s praises more than enough, you’re probably wondering just what the hell CRIMINAL is all about?
Each story arc of CRIMINAL is self-contained to 4-6 issues. While the characters all exist within the same world, you can read CRIMINAL in any order you please. This means that the current arc, THE SINNERS, is a perfect entry point for those of you who haven’t yet read CRIMINAL. The shared world thing is just a part of what makes CRIMINAL so cool, as it’s neat to see a background character you barely notice in an earlier story become a prominent figure in a later story (as was the case with “Bad Night”). The current arc, the SINNERS, is all about someone who is killing off “made men”.. criminal power-players, if you will, who should otherwise be untouchable. And, since the underworld can’t exactly go to the police, they bring in enforcer Tracy Lawless to investigate things. A conflicted man who doesn’t even want to be working in this world in the first place.
The characterization in this book is so sharp, that by the time you finish the first issue, you’ll feel like you’ve known Lawless all your life. And, with the developments of CRIMINAL: THE SINNERS #2, I personally can’t wait to see where things are going in issue #3 this week.
If you haven’t yet read CRIMINAL, we’ll the previous two issues, in addition to issue #3, well-stocked this week, to make it easy on you to catch up. Don’t miss out on one of the best series of this decade.

“THE BOYS”, “PREACHER”, & “CROSSED” WRITER GARTH ENNIS’S BATTLEFIELDS: HAPPY VALLEY #1 BRINGS US MORE OF ENNIS’S GRUELLING, BLOODY WAR STORIES! IF TARANTINO’S “INGLORIOUS BASTARDS” WAS A COMIC, THIS WOULD BE IT!
He’s taken superheroes to their darkest extremes in THE BOYS. He’s given a whole, twisted new meaning to survival horror in CROSSED, and he’s written countless other epics (including the legendary PREACHER series)… Garth Ennis is a man who knows how to do comics right. But, there’s one thing, that’s a personal labor of love for him, and it really shows. Some of his best material happens to fall under the genre of war stories, and Ennis manages to tell some of the most brutal, well-paced, yet accessible war stories you could think of.
This go around, he’s back with a brand new series called BATTLEFIELDS: HAPPY VALLEY, and the first issue debuts this Wednesday. The year is 1942. And a young Australian Ken Harding arrives in London, anxious to play his part in the aerial bombing of all those Nazi bastards. Losses are high, and morale is low, but our hero remains unphased until he meets his crew: a foul-mouthed, battle-hardened gang of guys who take no prisoners. And, now they’re headed to the heavily guarded industrial heartland of Ruhr, known to the fighter pilots as Happy Valley.
We’ve seen Ennis’s previous war stuff, and it’s always dripping with blood, and realism, while at the same time keeping in habit with his knack for strong characterization, and sense of dark humor.
If you’re a fan of the Boys, Crossed, or any of Ennis’s other work, we HIGHLY recommend giving his war stuff a shot this week with Happy Valley.

THOR #605 – DR. DOOM VS. THOR! ASGARDIANS TURNED INTO HORRIBLE CYBORG MONSTROSITIES! THE NEW DIRECTION OF THOR IS AWESOME!

First off, if you missed issue #604 of THOR, you need to pick it up, and hop aboard the current arc of Thor, cause it’s SMOKIN’! We were pretty skeptical about how well the new creative team would do following up a major act like JMS, but they picked up the ball and ran with it, kicking off a brand new story arc that’s bringing all the cool Dr. Doom/Asgard connections to full culmination. If you did miss THOR #604, don’t worry, because we still have it in stock here at the shop, in limited quantities, so you can still hop aboard the monthly series with only two issues to catch up.
As for what’s to expect this week in the newest installment of THOR.. simply put.. it’s DR. DOOM versus THOR in a throwdown that’s sure to be epic. #604 ended with Doom’s Asgardian cyborg hybrid monstrosities coming into plain sight, and then.. a certain God of Thunder appearing on the horizon to deal out some righteous justice.

IMAGE UNITED #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, AND CONTINUES THE HIT NEW SERIES THAT KEEPS SELLING OUT! FIND OUT WHY THIS LIMITED SERIES PENNED BY ROBERT KIRKMAN (WALKING DEAD, HAUNT) & ILLUSTRATED BY ALL THE IMAGE FOUNDERS IS A HIT! #1 STILL IN STOCK AT THIRD EYE!

The first issue of IMAGE UNITED went to a second print almost immediately, and it looks like the second issue will be going to as well. But, worry not, folks, we’ve got PLENTY of copies of IMAGE UNITED #2 coming in this Wednesday, and trust us, you’re gonna wanna give it a look. It’s actually pretty damn cool what they’ve accomplished with IMAGE UNITED, combining the talents of all the classic IMAGE founders on one book written by Robert Kirkman.
So, here’s how it works: Spawn appears in the book.. McFarlane draws him. Witchblade appears. Silvestri draws her. Get the idea? The book itself was a fun read, and is an action-packed nostalgic joyride for anyone who grew up reading comics during the IMAGE era in the ’90s. Bigger than life, with a well-paced story from Robert Kirkman, and tons of killer arrt, IMAGE UNITED is a blast.
Of course, the big reveal at the end of issue #1 was pretty cool… the villain of the series? Al Simmons, you know, the original Spawn, the guy we all remember from back in the day. And, yes, that’s him above with the horns. See, it looks like ol’ Al has found that destiny they always eluded to in those issues of Spawn way back in the day, and now he’s out to wreak havoc on the entire Image universe.
All in all, it’s not a plot-heavy book, but IMAGE UNITED is a blast, and provides a fun read, and a fun trip down memory lane for a lot of us who grew up reading comics in the ’90s. If you need us to put a copy in your box, just shoot us an email!
Oh, and if you missed out on issue #1, don’t worry.. we had a feeling it’d be a hit, and still have a decent amount of issue #1 hanging out here at the store for you to catch up with.
THIRD EYE ASKS “ARE YOU READING?” ABSOLUTION FROM AVATAR PRESS.. THINK ROBOCOP MEETS DEXTER
Here’s one that I wanted to spotlight because I feel that it’s an AWESOME series that’s continuing to fly under the radar here at Third Eye. While issue #5 ships this Wednesday, and I’m stoked about that, I wanted to take a moment to give an overview on the whole series and why I’m digging it so much.
First off, the story of Absolution is set in a world where “vigilante police forces” have been established. Basically, special police departments equipped with superhuman abilities to handle crime in the most extreme ways possible, HOWEVER, they are still required to uphold the same code of ethics as any other law enforcement official… in other words.. they can’t go around making dude’s heads explode.
And that’s where our (anti)hero comes in. John Dusk is one of these special police officers who has crossed the line from law officer to serial killer, albeit, of criminals. In the first issue, we’re led to believe that Dusk has seen many horrors before making this decision, and it culminates in him letting a rapist murderer die of blood loss.
From there, after getting his first taste of justice, he begins leading a double life, compulsively executing criminals, and evil men.
This series has all the makings of a modern day take on the age-old tale that stories like Robocop (but without the trademark satire), Judge Dredd, and more have explored. It kind of reminds you a little of DEXTER, mixed with a world of superhumans.
Plus, the art just gets better and better with every issue! We currently have all issues of ABSOLUTION instock here at Third Eye for you to catch up, otherwise, I’m sure those of you already reading the series are pumped for issue #5 this Wednesday!
HELLBOY: BRIDE OF HELL ONE-SHOT GIVES US A STRONG DOSE OF HELLBOY AND MIKE MIGNOLA TO END THE YEAR!

Nobody does creepy, mythology-rich horror comics like Mike Mignola. Nobody! I’ve been a Hellboy fan since I was just a snot-nosed kid in a Cramps t-shirt, and I gotta tell you, it’s only gotten better since then. This week, we get a nice little Christmas gift in the form of a Mignola-written one-shot with Richard Corben art. If you just want a good Hellboy story, done in one, then this one’s a gotta-read. Or, if you’ve never read a lot of Hellboy before, then now’s your chance to give it a try!
In BRIDE OF HELL, a young girl has been kidnapped and Hellboy’s tracked her down to rural France, where she’s about to be sacrificed to Asmodeus. This one’s definitely a pulpy, weird tale filled with love gone wrong, demonic revenge, ghosts, and the tombs of King Solomon.

IRREDEEMABLE #9 & IRREDEEMABLE VOLUME 2 TRADE PAPERBACK ARRIVE THIS WEDNESDAY TO FILL YOUR “SUPERMAN GONE EVIL” FIX!

Are you reading IRREDEEMABLE yet? If you’re not, you really should be. It’s one of our big favorites here month in and month out, and is one of the most well-written superhero books coming out right now.
We’ve got a double dose of IRREDEEMABLE this week for you, with both the 9th issue hitting (which continues from the epic reveals of issue #8), and the second volume of the IRREDEEMABLE trade paperback, which collects issues #5-8.
Why should you be reading IRREDEEMABLE? First off, the book practically pulsates with an insane post-modern 21st century comic book energy. It’s the story of the Plutonian, your standard Superman arch-type, who has gone mad, and started slaughtering the world around him. Basically, it’s SUPERMAN gone EVIL, and it’s great.
Why is it so good? The reason why it reads so well is because the series writer, Mark Waid (the man who did KINGDOM COME), is quite possibly the biggest SUPERMAN fan… in the world. He loves SUPERMAN, he loves the world of SUPERMAN, and he gets the character almost better than anyone else. And, this, this is what it takes to write a well-done take on what would happen if the Man of Steel went wrong? And, what did it take to get him to that point? Because Waid is such a fan of Superman, and his history, he is able to make all those little details that most writers would miss, count.
I don’t know, there’s a certain kind of electric excitement I get when I pick up a new issue of IRREDEEMABLE (and now the companion series, INCORRUPTIBLE), where I know I’m going to be thrust into a world of superheroes that SHOULD be cookie-cutter, but aren’t. They’re more fleshed-out, and three-dimensional than most characters that’ve been around for years.
Simply, put IRREDEEMABLE rules, and you need to check it out! The first trade paperback is only $9.99, and we can either catch you up in the single issues, or you can just follow up with Volume 2!
STAFF PICKS
Trish – Green Lantern Corps #43 – I made this my pick just because of the fact that it was such a fun read, and it was so easy to get into, even though I’m not as familiar with the Green Lantern Corps as Steve or Torma. I do like Guy Gardner, and seeing him running around ripping off arms, and kicking ass was AWESOME.
Torma – Dark Avengers #12- TOTAL MAYHEM! The best issue of DARK AVENGERS yet. They finally do something awesome with the Sentry, and it is bigger than life. There’s a great final page splash that gives a nice reference to what’s coming in SIEGE!
Steve – INCORRUPTIBLE #1 – Man, am I easy to read or what? I was hyped for this one like hell, and it totally lived up to the hype. Incorruptible takes everything you always THOUGHT a sketchy, shady supervillain would do… and makes it happen.. and then shows how tricky his road to redemption is. A great read for Irredeemable fans, and non-fans alike.

THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 11/25/09

It’s a big week for Blackest Night, folks, with two of the most anticipated titles attached to rings arriving this Wednesday. The first of which, of course, being BLACKEST NIGHT #5, and that comes with the free GREEN LANTERN ring. There’s really not a whole lot more we can say about Blackest Night that hasn’t been said. In fact, if you’re not yet reading BLACKEST NIGHT, then we highly recommend checking out the Blackest Night wikipedia entry by clicking here to read about how awesome it’s been. As for the new issue hitting this week.. all we can say is that Nekron, Lord of the Undead, is revealed, and his motives, and control over the Black Lanterns is explored.. and according to the solicits, this is supposed to be a huge turning point in the event!
For a quick Blackest Night in a nutshell description… basically, at the end of the SINESTRO CORPS WAR (a great storyline from BLACKEST NIGHT writer Geoff Johns which really kicked all of this off), it was realized that there are several different Lantern Corps, and each one represents a different color of the spectrum. Each color, of course, represents a different emotion. Red equals Rage, Indigo equals Compassion, ect. The big reveal though was that a prophecy was coming into realization, and that was the Blackest Night. The Black Lanterns. They represent DEATH, and basically, it’s brought us to here where black rings have resurrected nearly every dead DC Universe character you can think of as a vengeful, undead Black Lantern. Everyone from the Martian Manhunter to Dick Grayson’s parents, the Flying Graysons are back, and they’re out for blood. The Black Lanterns also have a knack for eating people’s hearts. :) If you’re interested in catching up on BLACKEST NIGHT, we currently have EVERYTHING well-stocked here at Third Eye, and we would recommend starting with GREEN LANTERN #43 *BLACKEST NIGHT PROLOGUE* and then jumping into BLACKEST NIGHT #1. Of course, if you want the back story, you can always go back and check out the Sinestro Corps War, and other following volumes now available in trade paperback. Click here to see a checklist for BLACKEST NIGHT.
Now, lets talk about JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #39, this is going to be a big tie-in issue, and we’re excited about it. First off, the new direction of JUSTICE LEAGUE, which began inJUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #38last month (still available here at Third Eye), kicked off with a bang! Great story from James Robinson (of Starman fame) and great art from Mark Bagley (Ultimate Spider-man, for like a billion years!). It’s actually been a very long time since I really got excited about the core Justice League ongoing series, and between the first issue of the new direction and then Robinson’s Cry for Justice, they’re getting me pumped for the JLA again. The new line-up is different, yet fresh, and the big reveal at the end of #38 with Black Lantern Dr. Light (you know, one of the most vile DCU villains thanks to Identity Crisis), was a great way to start things off. And, that brings us to this week with Justice League #39. This is the official BLACKEST NIGHT tie-in issue, and it features a very angry Black Lantern Dr. Light. Lets be honest, after what Meltzer did with the character in Identity Crisis, he’d already climbed the villain ladder, big time. Now, that he’s back as a Black Lantern, we can only imagine the villainy he has in store for the JLA. Ontop of all this, Justice League #39 comes with the Red Lantern Rage Corps ring.
But, wait, before we move ahead, we can’t neglect to mention the other big Blackest Night books this week, just because they’re not coming with rings. That would be plain unfair. First off, we’ve gotGREEN LANTERN #48, and with this series being penned by GEOFF JOHNS, the mastermind behind the Blackest Night, it’s almost as essential reading as the core Blackest Night book. In fact, if you read each issue of Green Lantern in between the issue of Blackest Night that proceeds and follows it, it fills in several gaps with the event. Basically, if you’re reading BLACKEST NIGHT, then you really should be reading GREEN LANTERN too, even if that’s the only other tie-in you’re following. In last month’s GL #47, we saw the emergence of the BLACK LANTERN elders, and they had a really cool, creepy Hellraiser-esque kind of thing going on. We also saw some unusual alliances between the different corps form, and now, in this month’s #48, it’s time to see this ticking timebomb explode.
Also, arriving this week is TEEN TITANS #77, a big Blackest Night tie-in itself. Whyat’s the big deal? Well, I’m not even the biggest old school Titans fan, but I can tell you right now that there’s A WHOLE LOTTA DEAD TITANS out there. And, now, a legion of undead Teen Titans have returned as Black Lanterns to totally decimate (and probably eat the hearts) of Teen Titan, old and new alike.
So far, the tie-ins for Blackest Night have all been fiercely on point, and the latest example of that was the Superman/Batman last week. What could’ve been just a fill-in issue, was actually pretty damn good. I was surprised!
After the fallout of the Blackest Night Titans limited series, we’re pretty excited to see what’s in store in this issue of Teen Titans.
CHEW TRADE PAPERBACK (collecting issues 1-5) AVAILABLE WEDNESDAY FOR ONLY $9.99 *THIRD EYE MUST BUY* & CHEW #6 ALSO ARRIVES AS WELL! THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO JUMP ONTO ONE OF THE BEST NEW SERIES OF 2009! CANNIBAL COPS! POULTRY PROHIBITION!

What is Chew? Chew’s story is set in a world where all poultry has been made illegal, similar to the Prohibition era for Alcohol. The reason why? Bird Flu. Serious, deadly, bird flu. So, in this world, there’s speakeasies dedicated to serving turkey, chicken and so forth. In this world, resteraunts smuggle in real chicken instead of the substitute product that’s been forced on society. And, in this world, exists the series main character, Tony Chu. Tony Chu is cibopathic. It’s a rare condition where he receives psychic impressions from whatever he eats. He eats a hamburger, he sees the cow being killed. He eats an apple, he can see the pesticides being sprayed on it. In fact, the only thing that Tony can eat without any bother, are beets. He doesn’t know why, but beets are the one thing he gets no reaction from. Well, the series kicks off with Tony dining with his partner (Tony’s a homicide detective) at a speak-easy serving chicken. He has the soup. And, then, he sees a lot of girls being killed and put into that soup. Tony senses the killer in the kitchen, chases him out, and the killer ends up taking his own life. To get the names of the victims, Tony gnaws on the killer. And, if you haven’t already seen where this is going… the series has kicked off, with Tony being recruited into the FDA (now as big a deal as the ATF is today), and being used for his unique talents. In other words, he’s gotta eat the remains of murder victims.
Sound cool? You bet it is. And, this Wednesday, the first trade collecting issues 1-5 arrives here at Third Eye, and guess what.. it’s only $10. So, if you’re looking for something to kill time in between Walking Dead trades, or maybe just something a little quirkier than usual. Give Chew a shot. It’s well-written, gorgeously illustrated and a great read.
And, lets not forget, Chew #6 *International Flavor pt 1* is also arriving this week. After the surprising last issue (which I don’t want to drop spoilers on, with the trade and all hitting this week), it looks like we got some cool stuff to look forward to in the new arc of Chew that begins this week. All we know is we’re going to see Tony Chu on the case, and he’s trying his damndest to solve this case old school before his boss decides to make him eat some of the most disgusting stuff imaginable to figure out just what is going on.

IMAGE UNITED #1 - THE ORIGINAL ’90s DREAM TEAM RETURNS IN THIS VERY SPECIAL LIMITED SERIES WRITTEN BY ROBERT KIRKMAN (WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE, HAUNT) & ILLUSTRATED BY TODD MCFARLANE, ERIK LARSEN, ROB LIEFELD, MARC SILVESTRI & MORE!

For those of you who followed comics heavily in the ’90s, like myself. Heck, that’s when I grew up reading comics! You have to admit the sheer nostalgia of this event is overwhelming. And, with the coverage it’s been getting in the mainstream press (USA TODAY, MTV, ect), you know that the Image guys have got some big plans for this thing. Honestly, there were a lot of good things, and a lot of bad things about Image Comics in the ’90s. I, personally, feel that the way the comic has reinvented itself since then in the 21st century has been top notch. However, I can’t deny that characters like Spawn, Wildcats, and yes, even the Savage Dragon, were big parts of my youth. And, with the modern day master, Robert Kirkman (you know, the guy responsible for things like WALKING DEAD and INVINCIBLE, as well as his latest hit HAUNT) writing this, I really feel it’s going to be something special.
What is Image United? Image United is a long in the works reunion of the Image Comics founders. These were the guys that redefined what comics could be in the ’90s, and were the first real pioneers (along with Dark Horse) of showing that there could be more than just two major comics publishers. It’s been a very long time since a lot of these guys worked on their original characters, and heck, even a long time since they’ve done new work, so it’s exciting to see them all coming back for this. This limited series is a, excuse me for being blunt, big ass story where all of the original Image founders are going to be illustrating their characters and their parts in the series. The story itself is being written by Robert Kirkman, and lets be honest, the Image guys could draw really good, but it’s exciting now to see their characters backed by a guy who can actually write pretty dang well. This is one of the first times I can think of where a series has had a roster of superstars each contributing to the artwork, in such a unique way. Now, the actual plot of the series? Well, Image is being cryptic, but it’s basically: the entire cast of the Image universe is combining forces to throw down with a gigantic threat that could wipe everything out. Now, normally, I’d say, this doesn’t really sound like much of a plot to back things up… BUT… this is Robert Kirkman we’re alking about, folks, and if one thing is for sure… the man can take a standard concept and turn it on it’s head. And, with a series this big, you can bet he’s going to be delivering the goods.

THE BOYS VOLUME 5 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!

Since we opened our doors here at Third Eye, we’ve been preaching the awesomeness of THE BOYS by Preacher writer GARTH ENNIS. And, every time there’s a new volume of this series available in trade, we feel it’s cause for celebration. We know a lot of you guys read this already in the singles, but, there’s just as many of you who patiently (and agonizingly) await the next trade paperback to hit. And, folks, we wait too, because our OCD kicks in, and we really need to get the next volume of this series up on our shelf at home to keep the rest company.
This week, THE BOYS v.5: HEROGASM arrives, and gives you your next long-awaited slab of depraved superhero madness. This installment features THE BOYS thrown into the midst of their equivalent of big superhero crossover events. And, basically, they find out that these epic, cosmic battles are really just an excuse for the capes to disappear elsewhere and party hard. But, in the midst of all their decadent fun, the capes have darker motives, and with THE BOYS staking them out.. you know all hell is breaking loose. The dark secrets of the great American tragedy that happened because of the Seven and the Vought-American are fully revealed here.
What is the Boys? Imagine this, a world where superheroes were the next step of national defense. Independent contractors working for a private company known as the Vought-American corporation. Think of them as supercharged private mercenaries for hire. And, they’re all the archetypes you know so fondly… the Homelander is Superman.. A-Train’s the Flash, ect, ect. And, they’re all EXTREMELY corrupt. The absolute power of being a superhuman has turned them into the ultimate despicable beings. And, The Boys, they’re the government’s answer to this. A group of individuals who’s lives have been shattered by the Capes and Vought. A group of individuals motivated by their sheer hatred of the Capes. And, they work for the CIA, policing the Capes, making sure they don’t become too big for the U.S Government to control. The Boys is an INCREDIBLE series, and if you haven’t yet tried it, we highly recommend picking up the first trade paperback this week.
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #20 STARK DISASSEMBLED PT 1 – HUGE NEW STORY ARC BEGINS HERE! A PERFECT JUMPING ON POINT, AND A LITTLE TASTE OF WHAT’S TO COME IN MARVEL’S “SIEGE” EVENT!

Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man has been, by far, one of the best and most consistent ongoing Marvel series around. I mean, first off, it’s had the same creative team since issue #1 with Fraction and Larocca on board. This means that the storylines are tight, they’re consistent, and the quality never dips, never falters. No fill-in artists, no filler issues, just one hell of a run. Secondly, this is the best take on Iron Man that I’ve seen in decades. The only thing I think that’s come close recently was the Extremis storyline from a few years ago that Warren Ellis did… and I think that this is STILL better than that.
And, all of this Iron Man love is coming from a guy who had never really been a huge Iron Man fan before. See, I grew up reading comics in the ’90s. Yeah, when Iron Man was like.. a kid that time-travelled to the future because he went evil, or some crap like that. It was awful. And, then they revamped it with Kurt Busiek and Patrick Zircher (or was it Sean Chen, I can’t remember), and it was pretty awesome, but you know, it never was my must-read. When the Iron Man movie came out, Marvel launched Invincible Iron Man, and I gotta say, I wasn’t expecting the series to be as good as it has been. I mean, I loved the movie, but I was still hesitant about Iron Man. He was hard for me to get into. Hard for me to follow. Well, all that vanished after finishing Matt Fraction’s first Invincible Iron Man arc (the Five Nightmares, available in trade paperback now). He manages to take and capture everything that is cool about Tony Stark. He does what the movie did. He plays up the technology without the book being a technology lovefest. He plays up the suave cool of Tony Stark without making him into an unlikeable jerk. And, best of all, he has charged this book with so much action, you’re left wondering when you’re going to get your breath. The artwork from Larocca just helps to increase the awesomeness of the series, and it meshes perfectly with Fraction’s story.
In fact, Invincible Iron Man is the best Iron Man stuff I’ve ever read, only surpassed by maybe the classic Micheline and Layton stories.
And, now, the perfect jumping on point is here with the newest issue, Invincible Iron Man #20. This is a great entry point to come aboard the series, as the last arc has ended, and things are really beginning to heat up. See, Iron Man plays a HUGE role in the upcoming Marvel event SIEGE (which is going to be incredible), and there’s all kinds of crazy rumors going around about a seriously deadly fate awaiting Tony Stark. However, we don’t think he’s going to get killed off. In fact, we know that.. but, whatever is going to go down, we know it’ll be something big, and it’s going to happen in Invincible Iron Man #25. So, now is the perfect opportunity to come aboard. The road to STARK: DISASSEMBLED begins here!

INCOGNITO TRADE PAPERBACK *THIRD EYE MUST BUY* AVAILABLE THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE! ONE OF OUR FAVORITE SERIES LAST YEAR! APOCALYPTIC PULP NOIR COURTESY OF CRIMINAL CREATIVE TEAM ED BRUBAKER & SEAN PHILLIPS

One of the best freaking comics I read last year was the original series, INCOGNITO, from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. I’d already been a fan of this pair due to their incredible crime noir series CRIMINAL, and their work on hidden gems like SLEEPER. When I heard they were going to be applying their unique blend of noir storytelling to the world of superheroes, I flipped out. And, then, when the series began, it was everything I hoped it would be. This, my friends, is one of the best stand alone graphic novels you can buy this year. Whether you want a hardboiled crime noir story, or a mature slant on the world of supervillains, this is it.
What is Incognito? Incognito is set in a world where larger than life pulp heroes and villains existed. Heroes and villains dating back to the ’30s, with names like Professor Zeppelin (who reminds you of Doc Savage), and Lazarus (think the Shadow), and then villains such as The Black Death. See, powers in this world, were all the result of a meteor that landed in the 1800s and turned an escaped convict ino the Black Death. In the years following World War II though, most of these villains, and heroes faded away, and were soon forgotten as urban legends and fiction.
Fast forward to the modern day, and we have former villain Zach Overkill, a henchman of the Black Death who now lives his life in Witness Protection. He’s miserable. He’s bored. He hates life as a normal person. He punches in every day, works his 9 to 5, and goes home. As time goes on, he falls into a spiral of self-destructive behavior, including drug use, and this cancels out the drugs that’re keeping his powers suppressed. Before he knows it, he’s out on the streets, and for the sheer thrill of it, he’s in costume, but this time acting as a vigilante… because he’s bored with life as a whole. It’s soon revealed that this rat is a live, and the Black Death and his henchmen are on his trail, in a very violent, brutal fashion.
And, I’ll stop there before I spoil the story. Incognito is a pulpy, noir story that takes a fascinating look at the world of adventurers, superheroes, and super villains. It’s a must read, I think, for anyone who just plain enjoys good comics. Whether you like more indie-oriented stuff, or if you like the more superhero-centric stuff… Incognito delivers on both fronts.
CRIMINAL THE SINNERS #2 - SPEAKING OF INCOGNITO, BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS’S NEXT ISSUE OF CRIMINAL ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, AND WE CAN’T WAIT!

As you can already tell from my write-up on Incognito, I am a huge fan of the creative team Brubaker & Phillips. These guys can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes. And, if you enjoyed Incognito, and haven’t yet read CRIMINAL, I can’t recommend it enough. This is THE best crime comic coming out now. In fact, I would put this right up there with classics like SIN CITY, STRAY BULLETS, and 100 BULLETS. In fact, I’d even go as far as to say that this series is BETTER than those. I know, I know, I love Sin City, and I love 100 Bullets, and I love Stray Bullets, but Criminal has proven to be the most consistent, and most enthralling crime comic I’ve ever read. It’s pure modern day noir at it’s finest, from the moody art of Sean Phillips, to the plotting and characterization of Ed Brubaker.
The current CRIMINAL (each story is a self-contained round of 3-6 issues, so the order in which you read the CRIMINAL arcs does not really matter) is the story of Tracy Lawless. A man who came to destroy a crime mob, and has ended up working as one of their best enforcers. Made men are turning up all over the city murdered, and since the crooks can’t go to the cops, they need to bring in their own special brand of justice. Tracy Lawless has been made the sherrif of the underworld, and it’s up to him to finish this out. The fascinating thing of this story is Tracy Lawless himself. He’s the perfect example of noir storytelling, and represents the kind of character that CRIMINAL is known for. A flawed, tragic individual who’s nobles intentions have led him into a life of despair, and self-loathing.
If you haven’t yet picked up CRIMINAL, then grab CRIMINAL: THE SINNERS #1 this Wednesday at Third Eye, and try it out. For those of you who’ve already read the first issue, then you’re already getting stoked to see what happens next this week.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #613 *THE GAUNTLET PT 2* – THE GAUNTLET KICKED OFF WITH A BANG LAST WEEK, AND CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY! FIND OUT WHY THIS IS A SPIDEY BOOK YOU HAVE GOTTA READ!

Dude, the Gauntlet kicked off with a bang last week. I was very impressed. Before I go into detail, let me go over what THE GAUNTLET is to those of you who might not know. Basically, Marvel is bringing back all of Spidey’s classic Rogue’s Gallery, and they’re amping them up, big time. A deadlier Rhino, a deadlier Sandman, a deadlier Electro. And then, they’re going to be throwing each one of these guys against him, and really putting the webcrawler through some serious abuse until we get to the big unveiling of the brand new Sinister Six.
Now, last week in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #612 *THE GAUNTLET PT 1*, we saw the return of Electro. A classic Spidey villain who never really got his due respect. In fact, the last time we saw Electro, if I remember right, was back during the beginning of New Avengers. Since then, Electro’s gone through some ups and downs. He’s had all of the money he’s secured from years of being, well, a plain ol’ bad dude, completely disappear in the economic meltdown of last year. And, now, Electro, who’s older, and who’s powers have become more erratic and harder to control, has found his calling. He’s directing his rage at the fat cat bankers who got the federal bailout. And, in doing so, he’s developed a bit of a following as kind of a anti-establishment, working man’s folk hero.
Of course, in Spidey’s eyes, Electro is still a bad guy, and I mean, hey, if he’s out there running thousands of watts of electricity through someone’s body until they’re a charred husk… I guess he still is. Anyways, when Spidey gets involved, we really start to see just how deadly the new Electro is going to be.
And, that brings us to this week’s issue, the second installment of THE GAUNTLET. In this issue, all we know is that Electro is turning to a highly unexpected ally to cure his condition and regain control of his powers. And, of course, we’ve got the little cliffhanger of last week’s issue where Spidey was…. well, I can’t spoil it for those of you who’ve yet to read the book.
Anyways, long story short.. Amazing Spider-man has quickly become a must-read again with only one chapter of the Gauntlet in. We’re excited to see where this whole thing will be heading.
DEADPOOL CLASSIC VOLUME 3 HITS THIS WEEK, DELIVERING MORE OF WHAT WE CALL THE BEST DEADPOOL RUN… EVER!

Another slab of Deadpool awesomeness arrives this week in the pages of DEADPOOL CLASSIC volume 3. The Deadpool Classics have been some of the best reprints of old Marvel material that I’ve seen. Now, granted, Deadpool Classic v.1 really doesn’t pick up until the end (which gives you the first issue of Joe Kelly’s run), but Deadpool Classic volume 2… all gold, man. See, Deadpool Classic is reprinting the incredible character-defining Joe Kelly & Ed McGuiness Deadpool run. Now, not only are these back issues impossible to find (trust me, one of the things I had to sell when selling my collection to raise money to open the shop was this run, and it makes me sick to see it worth a small fortune now), but these are also the issues that really defined Deadpool as the hilarious, over-the-top madman that you all know and love today. This is where the character really got his voice, and this entire run still stands the test of time today (kudos to Joe Kelly for that, it just goes to show how well the man can write).
Anyways, this Wednesday the third volume of Deadpool Classic will be hitting, and in it you can expect another giant slab of Deadpool awesomeness!
SUPERMAN SECRET ORIGIN #3 BRINGS US THE THIRD ISSUE IN THIS INCREDIBLE 21ST CENTURY RE-TELLING OF SUPERMAN’S ORIGIN FROM BLACKEST NIGHT WRITER GEOFF JOHNS!

Gotta tell you guys, ten years ago if you told me that one of my most anticipated books each month would feature the Big S, I’d have said you were full of it. Honestly, outside of stories like Superman Red Son, ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, and the John Byrne revamp of the ’80s… Superman just never did it for me. And, then, Geoff Johns did his killer Action Comics run, and got me hooked. And then he left, and I was left with a void. Nothing could match what Johns had done on the book, and I was finding myself looking for more good Superman books. Well, thankfully, Superman Secret Origin came along.
This is a book that ANY self-respecting comics fan should be reading. This is a book that captures the essence of Superman, and re-tells everything about the character with a modern 21st century spin. In other words, this book is outstanding. See, a lot of people say they can’t get into Superman. He’s too powerful, and he’s too hard to relate to. And, I agree, when he’s not written right, he’s impossible to get into. But, Johns captures the thing that makes Superman work as a character. Superman’s biggest weakness is that he IS the most powerful being on Earth, yet he will never know what it’s like to fully be human, because of this. He knows that 100 years from now, he’ll be alive, and most of his friends, and loved ones won’t. And, he carries that burden. Just like being the last of his people.
Nowhere is this clearer than in Geoff Johns’s SUPERMAN SECRET ORIGIN. And, the series does a great job of retelling the Man of Steel’s story for a new generation. Modern twists are put on classic concepts. And, like you’d expect from a good Superman story, Johns pulls at your heart-strings big time at some points. Plus, Gary Frank’s artwork is so good that you almost don’t even notice it. What I’m saying is he tells the story so well that you almost forget you’re reading a book, you’re pulled in, and you can almost see Christopher Reeves there acting these stories out.
The third issue of SUPERMAN SECRET ORIGIN arrives this Wednesday, and if you haven’t yet hopped on, we still have issue #1 and issue #2 in stock.

POWERS RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH POWERS #1! A PERFECT JUMPING ON POINT TO THIS FANTASTIC CREATOR OWNED SERIES BY BENDIS & OEMING! READ ON TO FIND OUT WHY WE’RE SO BIG ON THIS SERIES!

POWERS IS BACK! MONTHLY! Now, for those of you who’ve read POWERS, then you already are well aware of what a great series this was (and is). Honestly, the only thing that derailed it was writer and creator Brian Michael Bendis got so busy being the 21st Century Stan Lee and pretty much heading up the Marvel Universe that he had to put Powers on hold. Which is a shame, because POWERS is probably one of our favorites of his.
Powers is basically a police drama with superpowers, long story short. The world of Powers is a dark, and violent one. The thing that makes the series such a great read though is it serves as the perfect platform for Bendis to do what he does best: write strong characters with great dialogue.
The series follows two detectives, Christian Walker and Deanna Pilgrim, who operate in a department that specializes in homicides involving superpowers. In the world of POWERS, superpowers are common, but not mundane. The real dynamic is that Walker himself was formerly a superhero before lost his abilities and joined the police force. This adds a whole nother interesting level of story and development to things. In this world, superpowers are odd, some cases, they’re even seen as a contagious disease that can be caught by interaction with the “infected.”
The best way I could describe Powers is: crime fiction/police drama meets VH1 Behind the Music for Superheroes. The series is just plain good, and definitely warrants checking out.

ULTIMATE COMICS AVENGERS #4 - MARK MILLAR (OLD MAN LOGAN, WANTED, KICK-ASS) & CARLOS PACHECO CONTINUE TO GIVE US THE BEST ULTIMATES STORY IN A LONG TIME!

Mark Millar and Carlos Pacheco’s revival of the Ultimates with ULTIMATE COMICS AVENGERS has been insanely good. I mean, you have to understand… ULTIMATES and ULTIMATES 2 remain some of my favorite Marvel comics of all time. And, in my opinion, Millar redefined who and what the Avengers were in the Marvel universe. So much so in fact that it’s the Ultimates world where we see the movies taking influence from. And, I know, Ultimates 3 was… a little lacking, to say the least. But, it’s all good now, because Millar’s back, and with four issues in already on the new Ultimates run… we can safely say that he’s kicking all kinds of ass.
What’s Up With Ultimate Comics Avengers? Okay, for me to explain the whole concept of the Ultimate universe is going to be a bit long-winded, but just picture it as a more streamlined, self-contained Marvel Universe. You can click here to read the wikipedia entry on it. Now, Ultimate Avengers.. is the Ultimate Universe equivalent of the Avengers. But in this world, the Avengers are more of a government-funded black ops team than they are a superteam, and they answer as much to Nick Fury as they do Captain America. Hawkeye is a hardened, professional killer. Tony Stark is the drunken playboy to the extreme. The Hulk is an uncontrollable monstrosity that eats people. And, Captain America, is one hell of a hardass. Now, in this current incarnation of the Ultimates, the story is revolving around the reveal that Captain America had an illegitimate son before going off to war, and that son grew up to be the Red Skull. And, now the Red Skull is back, and he’s out to make his father’s life a living hell. Imagine if your son grew up to be one of the most genocidal terrorists this nation’s ever seen, and well, that’s the Red Skull. And, in this world, he’s literally the Red Skull, as he carved his own face off with a kitchen knife.
Want to catch up on ULTIMATE COMICS AVENGERS? We currently have issues 1,2,3 all well stocked here at Third Eye, so if you’re intrigued, feel free to jump aboard. It’s still relatively early enough to get caught up, and trust us, we can’t begin to do this series justice. It’s non-stop, action-packed, high octane fun in the true Marvel vein.

THOR GIANT-SIZE FINALE CONCLUDES J.MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI’S INCREDIBLE RUN THIS WEDNESDAY AND SETS UP THINGS FOR “SIEGE” IN 2010

Thor is another one of those characters like Iron Man, that I think I had missed out on a lot of the great runs with. I mean, I grew up during Thunderstrike, you know? But, even before JMS did his take on Thor, I remember really first getting into the character with the late ’90s relaunch that John Romita JR did the art for. In fact, that run was so freaking cool, I’d recommend it to anyone. I still think that John Romita JR is one of the BEST Thor artists around. You can snag the Romita stuff nowadays in the THOR VISIONARIES: JOHN ROMITA JR tpb.
Anyways, I’m getting sidetracked… JMS has really done an incredible job of capturing the wonder and magic of Thor, and bringing it down to earth, so it’s grounded. There’s this awesome sense of balance, where the reader doesn’t feel disconnected from these characters (which is easy to do, because they’re Gods), but at the same time, experiences a real true sense of wonder when they come across things like the first sight of new Asgard.
Anyways, JMS’s modern classic of a run has come to it’s end, and this week we see the huge finale in the pages of THOR GIANT SIZE FINALE. Much like the OLD MAN LOGAN GIANT-SIZE SPECIAL, this will conclude the run, and leave things fresh and open for the next creative team to pick up the reigns on.
There’s lots of plot threads to be tied up here, and lots of questions to be answered. What does Dr. Doom have in store for the Asgardians? How will Loki’s plans play out? And, who will be the King of Asgard? And, along with Invincible Iron Man 20, this book is supposed to lay some serious seeds for the events of the upcoming SIEGE event… could that shot of Asgard crashing on the promo posters be related?
We don’t know, but we’re stoked to find out this week!
UNCANNY X-MEN #517 *NATION X PT 2* THE RETURN OF MAGNETO CONTINUES IN THIS WEEK’S UNCANNY X-MEN!

Nation X got off to a strong start in the pages of UNCANNY X-MEN #516, with a surprising (yet probably a trap) attitude towards the X-MEN. Now, judging just from the first issue of Nation X (UXM 516), here’s my prediction… Cyclops is gonna go fully bad guy in this story arc. For real. For the better part of this decade, Marvel has developed Cyclops in a very dark direction. He’s taken the reigns of the X-Men, he’s authorized the X-Force (a team of mutants that are authorized to KILL), and much more. His actions in UXM 516 totally look like we might see Cyclops becoming Magneto’s next right hand man. But, we’ll see, you know?
Anyways, in this week’s issue, we get to see the X-Men dealing with the return of Magneto, and trying to figure out what his place in the grand scheme of things is. Not to mention, the aftermath of Utopia, and a herd of Predator Xs… we think it’s gonna rock.
If you missed UNCANNY X-MEN 516, don’t worry, we still have plenty in stock for you get caught up with.

THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 10/21/109
BLACKEST NIGHT HITS BIG THIS WEEK WITH THE CONCLUSION TO BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN #3 (issues 1 & 2 both well-stocked if you need to catch up), AND DC DIRECT’S BLACKEST NIGHT ACTION FIGURES!

This Wednesday, we’ve got some big Blackest Night stuff for you guys. And, we know that’s what you like to hear, cause just like us, you guys have all been head over heels for what’s been DC’s best storyline in ages.
On the comics end of things, we’ve got the conclusion to BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN with BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN #3. The one thing I think that’s kept us so into Blackest Night, and has really helped the momentum of the storyline as a whole carry, has been the overall awesomeness of the different tie-in books. In major crossovers, it’s very rare that you get total wins on all counts, but with Blackest Night, nearly every tie-in has been a real gem. The Superman one has been especially good with it’s usage of Earth-2 Superman as a Black Lantern, and lets not forget the return of Psycho Pirate. Anyways, we’re looking forward to seeing how this one is going to wrap up. I mean, the last time we saw Psycho Pirate, he got his face squished through the Medusa Mask… you know that guy’s gonna be carrying some serious grief with him. And, if you missed the first two issues of this one, don’t worry, we do have plenty of issues 1 and 2 in stock to catch you up. Just click here to read more about BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN #3.

And, then, on the “Cool Things To Have On Your Desk” side of things… check out these awesome little suckers.. the first wave of BLACKEST NIGHT DC Direct action figures hits this Wednesday, featuring RED LANTERN ATROCITUS, ALPHA LANTERN BOODIKA, and BLUE LANTERN ST WALKER. These are just too cool.
COWBOY NINJA VIKING #1 KICKS OFF BRAND NEW IMAGE SERIES THAT KICKS TRIPLE ASS. BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK, FRESH, QUIRKY STORY, ALL IN THE GOLDEN AGE COMIC-FORMAT (similar to VIKING) *THIRD EYE MUST BUY*

Here’s one that I am SUPER pumped about. I got a preview copy of this one earlier this month, and read it cover to cover, enjoying every page. It’s a brand new Image series, and is one of the freshest new things I’ve read. The fact that the artwork plays out so nicely in the over-sized Golden Age format size that Image uses for books like Viking is also a big plus.
But, lets cut to the chase, what’s the book about? Well, a morally questionable psychotherapist has taken those in society with Multiple Personality Disorder, and found a way of turning them into special agents known as Triplets. Of course, this backfires, and now there’s an assassin cadre of Triplets working for an unknown organization.. and it’s very bad. And, that’s where our hero comes in, the Cowboy Ninja Viking.
Cowboy Ninja Viking, is kind of a Triplet himself, he’s got three personalities, one a Cowboy, one a Viking, and one a Ninja. He basically looks like a goof in office clothes carrying a kitana sword, six-guns, and rocking a Viking helmet. Each one of his different personalities speaks in a distinct voice, and the artist has used different word balloons to emphasize this (i.e when the Viking talks, there’s a little axe-shape around the word balloon). Of course, the characterization is so spot on (and humorous), that you know right away which voice is which. So, you’ve got a one man wrecking crew, with three voices arguing over which way to take things… the Ninja being the calm, cool and collected type, the Viking saying they should kill the enemy and eat them, and the Cowboy looking for a brothel.
Does this sound awesome? You bet it does. Anyways, I read the first one. I thought it was great. I don’t want to give everything away, but I’d highly recommend giving this one a peek this Wednesday. It’s definitely in the same, fresh and original vein that Image has been making a name for itself with books like CHEW, HAUNT, THE SWORD, and more.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #38 - BRAND NEW DIRECTION AND CREATIVE TEAM! A GREAT JUMPING ON POINT! FEATURING THE WRITER OF JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE & STARMAN!

Okay, everyone.. it’s safe to say, the Justice League just got cool again. While the previous run has had it’s shares of ups and downs, I’ve got to admit, it’s been hard for me to stay excited about it because it was so inconsistent. And nine times out of ten, it would always veer off into stories that didn’t scream Justice League to me. In my opinion, the Justice League of America should be one of DC’s high caliber books. It should be able to stand toe to toe with the Avengers as a top tier book. And, now, with the new direction beginning with James Robinson (writer of the legendary Starman, and the current smash hit Cry for Justice limited series) and Mark Bagley (the man who defined Ultimate Spider-man with Brian Michael Bendis, and has currently been delivering the goods on Batman), I think that we’re in store for a return to greatness for the Justice League.
First off, reason number one to jump on with this new direction, is the fact that James Robinson is penning it. This is the man who helped define superhero comics in the ’90s with his epic run of Starman (something I’d really recommend reading, if you haven’t already), and who has currently been turning all kinds of heads with the recent Justice League Cry for Justice limited series. How does Justice League 38 fit into things? It occurs before Blackest Night has begun, but after Cry for Justice, with the following issue catching the book up to the current events of Blackest Night. In fact, the events of Cry for Justice tie strongly into the new Justice League direction Robinson has planned. It looks like Robinson is pushing the League into a new direction, with a new generation of Justice Leaguers, featuring the likes of Dick Grayson as Batman filling the Caped Crusader’s role in the Trinity, Mon-El filling Superman’s boots (very reluctantly), and Donna Troy stepping in for Wonder Woman. These are all technically second-gen heroes filling the voids of the big dogs, and it’s going to be very interesting to see Robinson play with that dynamic. The line-up also includes other characters, that range from classic (yet underused) like Plastic Man, to a certain Scarlet Speedster we all know and love.
All in all, the art looks great, the story sounds fresh, and tight, and we’re excited to see where Robinson is going to take the JLA. Click hereto check out a preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #38
AZRAEL #1 DEBUTS THE BRAND NEW AZRAEL ONGOING SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY, AS THE DARKER SIDE OF GOTHAM CITY IS EXPLORED!

One of DC’s most popular characters in the ’90s was Azrael, the replacement for Batman after Knightfall. And, during the events of BATTLE FOR THE COWL, a new man is wearing the mantle of Azrael, and the new ongoing series featuring the character begins this Wednesday. This picks up right off the events of BATMAN ANNUAL #27 and DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #11, with the EIGHTH DEADLY SIN storyline.
The art for this one looks slick, and the story could go either way, but we’re very intrigued. The idea of an Angel of Justice working for a religious order, and existing in the turmoil of Gotham City is definitely an interesting concept that we’re eager to see play out.

CHEW #5 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING ONE OF THE FRESHEST, STRANGEST STORYLINES OF 2009! CANNIBAL SPECIAL AGENT AWESOMENESS!

Chew has taken Third Eye by storm this year. This quirky, bizarre new Image series featuring a cibopathic detective (cibopathic meaning he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats), and his corpse-munching adventures in a world where all poultry is illegal due to bird flue…. is just too awesome to be contained, folks. Seriously though, we love Chew. It’s weird, it’s fresh, it’s fun, and it’s got that perfect dark humor vein running through it that makes Third Eye all warm and fuzzy inside. Anyways, what more can we say about Chew? If you aren’t reading it, give it a shot, the trade paperback should be due out within the next week or two, but if you’re already reading it… then we know you guys’ll be eagerly waiting to snag up this week’s issue!
SPIDER-WOMAN #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF BENDIS & MALEEV’S DARK, GRITTY NEW ONGOING SERIES! LIMITED QUANTITIES OF #1 STILL IN STOCK, IF YOU MISSED IT!

So, did you read Spiderwoman #1? It ruled, didn’t it? Bendis and Maleev, those guys are a true dream team, man. Their work on Daredevil is what got me excited about this current run, and man, am I stoked to see where it’s going to go. The first issue set the stage for Spiderwoman as a book to be a very dark, moody, espionage-esque series focusing on Jessica Drew as an alien-hunting, alien-exterminating badass. It’s not a traditional superhero book, not by any stretch. She’s a killer. And, to be honest, the book reminds me more of titles like Ed Brubaker’s Sleeper, Gotham Central, and obviously, Bendis’s DD run.
Spider-woman works for SWORD, in an effort to hunt down and exterminate the 32 different alien races living in hiding on the planet Earth. And, her first mission has taken her straight to Madripoor to do SWORD’S dirty work.
And if you missed the first issue, even though it’s now out of print, and second prints are on the way, we still do have a few copies left in stock here at Third Eye for you to catch up with. So, be sure to snag it up if you haven’t already!

STUFF OF LEGEND #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF THIRD EYE’S INDIE HIT OF THE YEAR! IT’S TOY STORY MEETS SAVING PRIVATE RYAN DIRECTED BY GUILERMO DEL TORO… SOUND COOL? READ ON! PLUS, PLENTY OF #1 IN STOCK FOR THOSE WHO MAY HAVE MISSED IT.

One of the things that I’m really proud of about our store is how you guys are always ahead of the curve when catching the new stuff that rules. When Stuff of Legend was first solicited way back in the Spring of this past year, it was just a small block of text buried in the back of the Previews catalog. I was lucky enough to get one of the preview copies that the publisher had sent out, and man, it blew me away. So, when the book blew up a week or so after release, and became this huge thing, I can proudly say that you guys were already ahead of the curve, and on what became the biggest indie book of 2009. At the end of the day, we do this cause we love comics as a medium, and helping make new creators and titles break big, is a great feeling.
Anyways, enough of me getting mushy, lets talk about Stuff of Legend. My tag line for it is pretty fitting, it’s Toy Story meets Saving Private Ryan, as directed by Guilermo Del Toro… seriously though, this one smokes, folks. Gorgeous, GORGEOUS, artwork, and an incredible story. Basically, a young boy gets kidnapped during WW2, and taken into the Boogey-man’s realm. His toys come to life to rescue him, and when they cross through to the Boogeyman’s realm, everything becomes pretty horrifying and grisly (i.e the teddy bear becomes a giant, clawed grizzly bear, ect).
All in all, this one is a must for fans of good comics, as a whole. But, especially for those of you who really dig stuff like Fables. Anyways, I can’t recommend it enough, and I know many of you guys’ll be waiting eagerly for Wednesday to snatch up the second issue.
Did you miss #1? Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of #1 in stock as well, so you can snag em both up in one shot if you missed the first one already!

GREAT WEEK FOR TRADES: NEW SCALPED v.5 HIGH LONESOME, BPRD v.11 THE BLACK GODDESS, FINAL CRISIS LEGION OF THREE WORLDS HC AND ALEX ROSS’S UNCLE SAM BACK IN PRINT!

It’s a great week for new trade paperbacks here at Third Eye! First off, SCALPED VOLUME 5 arrives collecting the next chunk of grimy, dark noir-fused storytelling that Jason Aaron has gotten us hooked with. Why do we love Scalped? Scalped is a character-driven descent into hell, where there’s no good, and there’s no bad. It’s basically THE WIRE if the WIRE was set on an Indian reservation. Good guys go bad, bad guys go good, and nothing is as it seems. The book si very much an ensemble piece, and the only true constant character is the reservation itself.
We love SCALPED.
Next up, is the newest BPRD trade, which is BPRD v.11 BLACK GODDESS. This one is the second act in Mignola’s Scorched Earth trilogy, and is as you can always expect from the dark, and creepy world of BPRD, a great read.
Next up, Geoff Johns and George Perez delivered one of the best things to come out of Final Crisis last year with FINAL CRISIS LEGION OF THREE WORLDS. We’re stoked to see the gorgeous hardcover collected edition of this one hitting this week. And we know a lot of you are too!
Finally, to complete our foursome of killer new trades hitting (and trust us, there’s more than just these four, but we thought we’d narrow it down!) is the new edition of ALEX ROSS’S UNCLE SAM story. Where the American icon is portrayed as a delusiona vagrant, plagued with history travelling visions of America’s darker secrets. All in all, a great story, and we’re glad to see it back in print. Click here to read more about UNCLE SAM.

Most of you already know that Third Eye are huge animal lovers. So, this one’s a no-brainer for us. But, hey, check it out, it’s actually REALLY good. First off, it’s written by Evan Dorkin, who is one of the funniest comic book guys around today, and a personal favorite of mine. His work on stuff like Milk & Cheese and Dork is classic, and it’s cool seeing him bring these character, the Beasts, into the limelight with their own series.
What are the Beasts of Burden? Well, it’s basically a group of dogs (and a cat), who find themselves getting into zany, misadventures hunting ghosts, demons, and all sorts of other madness. So, yeah, it’s a talking animal book, BUT, it’s the most charming, witty, and entertaining little comic you’ll wanna read. If you want something kind of fun, a little light-hearted, but still written with a good slant, we can’t recommend Beasts of Burden enough.

DARK REIGN: THE LIST HULK ONE-SHOT *DARK REIGN: LIST CHAPTER 5* ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY EXPLORING THE HULK’S ROLE IN NORMAN OSBORN’S MASTER PLAN!

Marvel’s DARK REIGN: THE LIST has been the perfect way to bring DARK REIGN near to it’s end, and set the stage for the highly anticipated SEIGE that begins in 2010. Top notch writers and artists telling strong self-contained stories that link together in a unifying way to get everything in order for the next step in the progression of the storytelling. It’s good stuff. So far, we haven’t had one of these LIST one-shots disappoint us. This week, the DARK REIGN: LIST continues with Chapter 5 being DARK REIGN THE LIST HULK one-shot.
Written by PLANET HULK scribe, GREG PAK, this one takes a look at Osborn as he hunts down Bruce Banner, and the Son of the Hulk, Skaar. And, how does he plan to take em out? He’s got a whole bevy of his most dangerous femme fatales gunning for em.
This one follows right after DARK REIGN THE LIST SECRET WARRIORS *CHAPTER 4*, and should shed some light on a corner of the Marvel Universe that Dark Reign has not yet touched.
And, for those of you who may be unclear on the reading order it’s:
DARK AVENGERS #10 – NORMAN OSBORN HAS LOST HIS MIND! ARE YOU REALLY SURPRISED?

I think we all knew it was only a matter of time before Osborn lost his cool. I mean, he’s been a ticking time bomb ready to go off since before this whole thing began. In fact, if you look back to the incredible Ellis run of Thunderbolts (which pretty much was the prototype for DARK AVENGERS), you could see Osborn was about to crack his shell then. And, now, according to the solicits (and you know how enigmatic Marvel can be with their’s), this issue has ol’ Norman Osborn finally going off the deep end, as big things go down in the world of the DARK AVENGERS.
So, I guess, the only thing we can do, Third Eye Faithful, is wait and find out this Wednesday just what they’ve got in store for us!

UNDERGROUND #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE NEW IMAGE SERIES THAT IS “THE DESCENT” OF COMIC BOOKS!
Here’s one that really impressed us last month, Image Comics new limited series, UNDERGROUND. And, basically, if you’ve seen the horror film, the DESCENT about some cave-diving folk running into all kinds of flesh-eating beasties, then you’ve got a good idea of just what this one’s all about.
Now let me say, one of the things that made this comic so darn cool was that the writer JEFF PARKER managed to make a comic about caves and park rangers COOL. The first issue was a fast-paced read that really shows a lot of passion in the storytelling, and the characters are really well put together.
And yes, it’s about caves, with monsters, and horrible other things dwelling underneath, and the ballsy park ranger who’s going in after them.
It rocks, and if you missed #1, fear not, cause we still got some in stock for you to catch up with!
DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #4 CONTINUES THE HEADPOOL INSANITY!

Deadpool? Over-exposed? We don’t think so! We have to admit, we were worried when we first saw that the Merc With A Mouth was getting hit with a second ongoing series, limited series galore, and all these one-shots. But you know what, we can’t get enough. We’re really hooked on Merc With A Mouth, especially, as it’s the most bizarre, over-the-top, fourth-wall breaking Deadpool insanity-a-thon that we’ve seen.
Plus, while we’re suckers for a good cover, and the covers on this title have been over-the-top, folks.
Anyways, the madness in the Savage Land continues, as Deadpool, is fending off crazy cavemen, and Headpool keeps on spreading that zombie plague to the Savage Land and beyond. And, of course, one bite could be all it takes to give us TWO zombie Deadpools. Now, what madness would that be?
And, c’mon, the Scarface homage cover is AWESOME.

SUGARSHOCK ONE-SHOT WRITTEN BY JOSS WHEDON (FIREFLY, SERENITY, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER… you know, THAT guy).

Joss Whedon. That’s all you need to say, folks, and we’re in. This is the guy who gave us crazy, awesome sci-fi western madness with FIREFLY/SERENITY, and the man who created BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Not to mention, he redefined the world of the X-MEN with his run on ASTONISHING X-MEN.
And this week, we’ve got this cool little one-shot from Joss Whedon and Fabio Moon about the rock band, SUGARSHOCK, who’s got a frontwoman with a big hate-on for Vikings, and a bass player that’s a robot. And, from there, who knows where this thing goes.. all we know is it’s Whedon at his wittiest, and most hyper-active, and we can’t wait to give it a read this Wednesday.
